Romulus Revealed

Posted by Grey Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Ever the torturous mastermind villain, Romulus, who was introduced in Wolverine: Origins series, and shown to have orchestrated the many tragedies in Wolverine's life, manipulating him at every turn for most of his life, is finally revealed in his first full appearance in the upcoming Wolverine: Origins #40.

Am not a big fan of so-called mastermind villain appearing conveniently as and when the latest writer on board deemed fit. Especially for a character of the status that Romulus, of whom had existed since prehistoric age, had a run as the emperor in Ancient Rome, and playing an allegedly big part behind the Weapon X Project. The fact that Romulus was conceived in the god-awful Jeph Loeb and Simone Bianchi's run in Wolverine, where the Lupus Sapien species were introduced, doesn't helped too. This upcoming final confrontation which incidentally is also the first ever face-to-face meeting (at least to our knowledge) with his arch-nemesis, seemed like a desperate move by Marvel editorial to end this major plot that had ran for some time.

To commemorate the event, Simone Bianchi, the visual creator of Romulus, will be the guest variant cover artist. In fact, the cover seemed more like a page from the artist'sketchbook. A pity that Romulus's design looks more like a cheap knock-off of the real deal.

Newsarama had a six-page preview of the issue which you might like to check it out.
