Updates on both Final Fantasy VII and VIII.

That, is of course, a fan-made box art.

It has been awhile since the release of the tech demo, utilizing PlayStation 3's graphical capabilities to remake the opening sequence of Final Fantasy VII in 2005's E3. The short clip (embedded below), fueled fans across the world into rampant anticipation for a remake of the much beloved epic game, eventually went to naught as Square Enix's president Yoichi Wada reiterate that the presentation was intended only for technological demonstration purposes, followed by an official statement from the company indicating that they had not announced such a project.

But we believed that we speak for every gaming zombies in the world that the anticipation for an actual Final Fantasy VII remake for the PlayStation 3 is still as eager as ever. Will this gaming fantasy turns into a reality?

Well, 2010 may just lead us to that little ray of light.

When interviewed by RPGLand, Tetsuya Nomura, the chief designer of Final Fantasy VII and many other FF installments, has dropped quite a hint.

When asked, “Will 2010 be the year for the announcement of the game of his dreams?”, Nomura responded with:

I can just say, that indeed, whereas I’m still working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Agito XIII and a little later on The 3rd Birthday (this year), we will announce other games this year and one is terribly awaited from everyone and often “REQUESTED” by fans and even by the press crew that I meet all over the world.

Well, nothing can be bigger and more terribly awaited than the Final Fantasy VII remake. Keep those fingers of yours crossed.

In the meantime, Square Enix has released Final Fantasy VIII to the PSOne Classic library on the North American Playstation Store last month.
