Tomb Of Cao Cao Uncovered

Don't know who Cao Cao is? For starters, the Chinese equivalent of the English idiom "Speak of the Devil" is "Speak of Cao Cao and Cao Cao arrives"("說曹操,曹操到").

And the above is Cao Cao, as portrayed in Koei's Dynasty Warriors game series. Not exactly the villainous tyrant figure Romance of the Three Kingdoms make him out to be, Cao Cao, the posthumously titled Emperor Wu of Wei (魏武帝), was in fact, a much reputed brilliant ruler, a recognized military genius, an accomplished poet, and an established strategist who also authored many war journals during the Three Kingdoms period in the third century.

Chinese archaeologists believe they have found what could be the nearly 1,800-year-old tomb of Cao Cao in Xigaoxue, a village in central Henan province, near the ancient capital of Anyang, where the legendary ruler led the Kingdom of Wei from 208 to 220.

Archaeologists have found the remains of three people in the tomb, comprising a male around 60 years of age, believed to be Cao Cao, who died at age 65 in 220 AD, a female of about 50 and a second woman between 20 and 25, thought to be the Cao's empress and escort, respectively.

Over 250 relics were recovered from the tomb which covers an area of 740 square metres (8,000 square feet). Amongst these relics found were stone paintings depicting the social life of Cao's time, stone tablets bearing inscriptions of sacrificial objects, and Cao's personal belongings.

Despite the fact that the tomb was discovered about a year ago, it only came to the authorities' attention after stone tablets carrying inscriptions of "King Wu of Wei" were seized from alleged tomb raiders.
