Singapore's Whooping Donation To Haiti Earthquake Victims

While we convey our deepest condolences and sympathy to victims of the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th, our government, has delivered some whooping donation of their own.

An excerpt from the media report:

President SR Nathan has written to Haitian President René Préval to convey his sympathies to the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday.

In his letter, Mr Nathan said he is confident that under the Haitian president's leadership and the assistance of the international community, Haiti will recover from this catastrophic event.

Singapore's Foreign Ministry said in support of the international community's humanitarian relief efforts for Haiti, the Singapore government will make a contribution of US$50,000 through the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Yes, a whooping US$50,000 from our extremely generous government, just like Alyssa Milano had. As per what Mr. Brown had brilliantly observed, with the estimated 100,000 deaths, that's 50 cents for every dead soul. Will the Foreign Ministry or the president himself gets all kind of red-faced over this report from ChannelNews Asia? If they are not, they should just take a good look on today's Straits Times, which had boldly pointed out the donations being contributed by the respective nations, in response to the catastrophe.
Anybody recalled the relief efforts and the hefty donations (millions) Singapore contributed towards its more strategically positioned partners in the Indian Tsunami in 2004 and earthquakes in Aceh?

While we noticed interesting comments over at the aforementioned Mr. Brown article, like "That's almost an evening ERP gantry collection for CBD area alone", maybe it's just the fact that it's bonus month.
