Crysis 2: The Wall Trailer

Posted by Grey Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Cry in joy now. Crysis 2 will indeed be release this year, and available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Not included on our Top 13 Most Anticipated Games Of 2010 for the very reason that the release date seemed kind of vague at the beginning of the year, the release of Crysis 2 will no doubt be one of the biggest release this year, making 2010 another great year in gaming.

Without further ado, the trailer titled "The Wall".

Cool-looking game trailers comes and go these days, and we here at The Daily Zombies always make it a point that whichever game trailer you can find here belonged to a higher quality over the usually decent one. With Crysis 2's "The Wall", we can safely say that this is certainly a main contender for the title of "Game Trailer Of The Year".

Poignantly generated, the trailer effectively escalated the sense of desperation of mankind as opposed to the earlier two installment. Coupled with the quietly powerful cover of "New York, New York" by British singer-songwriter, Polly Scattergood, the images of a doomed New York is one that lingers long after viewing and is indeed surprisingly resonant even to those who have yet to fully embrace the franchise, like yours truly. The scene where the grenade goes off and the last scene when Nomad looks back in one of his iconic stance, are truly moving visuals, for a simple premise.

With Crytek remarking the combat being "catastrophically beautiful", the sequel is highly expected by the gaming industry to surpass the original game graphically, with the new gaming engine, CryEngine 3. Also remarkable would be the fact that this will also be the franchise's first foray into cross-platform gaming.

As with Crysis and its spin-off title, Crysis Warhead, Crytek will be employing the combo of top-notch First-Person Shooting and the free-form sandbox gaming on Crysis 2, albeit with a major twist: The battleground. Taking a major departure from the fictional tropical Lingshan Islands in Philippines, players will find themselves fighting in the literal concrete jungle of New York.

Obviously upping the ante by shifting the battleground, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has indicated in a press conference of their "decision to set the game in a city widely regarded as one of the great triumphs of humankind". Which made perfect sense with the final portion of the lyrics of the accompanying soundtrack, "New York, New York": "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere; It's up to you, New York, New York." If the alien can invade New York, they could be invading everywhere, and the flip-side of the same coin that if Nomad and crew can fend off the aliens and take back New York, they can take back anywhere.

The sequel will be set three years after the original Crysis in New York City, which has since been evacuated due to alien infestation while many other major cities across the world have been destroyed. Players will be stepping in the Nanosuit of Nomad, the supersoldier who is the protagonist of the original Crysis, to fight Crynet Systems, the makers of the Nanosuit, and the aliens who are rampant all over the city.

With the sequel, the iconic Nanosuit will be going through major changes, both appearance-wise and funcionality-wise. While the original game provided four Nanosuit powers, namely, armor, speed, stealth and strength, the sequel will be employing some kind of a mix-and-match merging of the four, allowing players to customize their very own Nanosuit. While details remained somewhat sketchy, the prospect of this new gameplay seemed promising enough.

This is definitely one of the biggest release of the year now that not just the PC gaming communities but the major platforms will be in high anticipation of the game. As this time, Crytek has only announced the release date as 'Holiday 2010'.
