X-O Manowar: The Movie?

Andy Lau as X-O Manowar?

While X-O Manowar is probably an unfamiliar name for comic readers who started in 2000s, the name has in fact carry quite a weight in comic scene back in 1991 when it was first published in the pages of Valiant Comics. Mind you, the comic character isn't your run-of-the-mill armor-clad superhero archetype. Inside the sentient armor is Aric of Dacia, a 5th century A.D. Visigoth barbarian dedicated to fight the Roman oppressors.

Captured by the Spider Aliens and held prisoner and enslaved aboard their craft, he befriended "Map Giver" (an Elvis Presley lookalike) who used a discarded bone shard to carve a map into Aric’s palm, leading the barbarian to the alien’s greatest weapon - the X-O Manowar armor. Donning the control ring which grants wearer the XX-O Manowar class armor, Aric fought his way out of the alien ship and return to Earth only to find that the time dilation effect of near light speed travel on the alien spacecraft meant that, while only a few years had passed on board, sixteen centuries had come and gone on Earth. Aric is now the the most primitive man on the planet yet he wields the most technologically advanced weapon in existence!

Okay, nostalgia aside, imagine my surprise when I lay my eyes on the poster for the latest Andy Lau sci-fi movie, Future X-Cops.

More than a little coincidental, isn't it?

  1. Chuck Said,

hahaha. looks so bad but i will need to see it. where can i download chinese movies? wish hollywood would get its shit together and make a real x-o manowar movie. not crap like jonah hex. x-o could be a huge box office success. get ridley scott and russell crowe to make this instead of robin hood. first movie would be aric captured and all on the ship, at the end he escapes. just like issue #0

  2. Grey Said,

Hey Chuck, absolutely agreed with you there, particularly how the first installment ending with Aric escape with the armor. It would be a helluva cliff hanger ending showing Aric in shock as he found himself in a modern earth.
Speaking of which, it always puzzles me how an interesting licensed material like this is in limbo.
Anyway, you might want to think twice about checking out Future X-Cops. Here's a link to the review from Twitchfilm: http://twitchfilm.net/reviews/2010/04/future-x-cops-review.php
