Street Fighter: Legacy

With the widespread online circulation of director Kevin Tancharoen's Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, I was reminded of another similar yet uniquely authentic effort that were done for the mother of all fighting game: Street Fighter. And trust me, this is indeed something to behold.

Based on the aforementioned ever-popular Capcom fighting game franchise Street Fighter, Street Fighter: Legacy is a live-action short film project produced by Streetlight Films production and co-written and co-directed by Joey Ansah and Owen Trevor. While both names should be sounding absolutely unfamiliar to most, Joey Ansah is actually an established British actor and a martial artist whom previous film efforts included an extended set-piece fight scene between himself and Matt Damon in the critically acclaimed action-thriller, "The Bourne Ultimatum" as Ansah played the role of Desh Bouksani, an assassin on the track of Jason Bourne.

The similarity between this short film and Mortal Kombat: Rebirth continues as both films employed the services of actors appearing in the upcoming live-action adaptation of yet another popular fighting game franchise, Tekken. John Foo, who played the leading role of Jin Kazama in Tekken, played another leading character in this one, taking on the role of everybody's favorite fighting game character, Ryu. Meanwhile, relatively unknown actor, Christian Howard played the role of Ken Masters while director-cum-writer Joey Ansah also made a turn as Akuma himself.

Unlike Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, Capcom reportedly gave their blessings to the short film when it was released last month on YouTube. With spot-on likeliness (granted that there's always room for John Foo to bulk up even further should this project really took off, and for Christian Howard to have a more realistic wig) and cool action sequences, the short film captured the spirit of the original game while adding in some atmospheric realism.

Check the video out with some screenshots of the short film available after the jump.
