Asura's Wrath Announcement Trailer - Tokyo Game Show 2010

Kratos, meet your Eastern counterpart.

Quite possibly the single best trailer coming out from the recently ended Tokyo Game Show 2010. While Capcom's DmC (the rebooted Devil May Cry) may just be the winner for the most shocking trailer, Asura's Wrath, the upcoming collaboration between Capcom and Japan-based CyberConnect 2 (famous for their work on the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja franchise) that is developed for release on both PS3 and Xbox 360, takes the cake for being the biggest, boldest, insanely action-packed trailer we have seen for some time.

Check out the trailer right after the jump and head back as we look on for a plot synopsis and some awesome screenshots.

The official plot synopsis:

A brand new title scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system and PlayStation®3, Asura’s Wrath sees Capcom join forces with Japanese developer CyberConnect2. Inspired by Asian mythology and fused with science fiction, Asura’s Wrath will redefine the action genre by delivering unprecedented levels of dynamism, drama and interaction.
Once a revered deity, Asura was betrayed by his fellow gods and stripped of all his powers. Consumed by anger at the injustice he has suffered and swearing vengeance, Asura discovers he can use this fury to his advantage and turn it against his enemies.
By channelling his inner rage, Asura is now able to unleash devastating attacks and wreak havoc as he battles against the deities who have wronged him and their earthly forces. Inspired by episodic dramas, ASURA’S WRATH will be split into distinct sections with gameplay and narrative unfolding as one and building to a final climatic conclusion.

While the plot seemed reminiscent of SCE Santa Monica Studio's God of War series, in retrospect, it seemed ridiculous for developers to come out with a similar concept so late. Asian mythology has been long-considered to be much intricate and richer than European mythology. With the title seemingly threading on aspects of Buddhist fables (which in itself is a multi-faceted mythology), coupled with hack-and-slash style informed by the wildly popular Dynasty Warriors franchise and action-adventure element the likes of God of War series, Asura's Wrath, powered by Unreal Engine 3, is certainly a title to look out for next year.

For crying out loud, a Buddha-like figure poking his divine finger(literally!) into earthly business (okay, I mean Earth)! Talk about insane. Can't wait for an epic battle of an intergalactic scale to bring down this nosy Deity. Now that will be bigger than God of War 3.
