Yakuza: Of The End: Zombies Of The Week - Tokyo Game Show 2010

Just when you think the off-the-wall idea of unleashing a zombie apocalypse into the world of Yakuza games series is absolutely insane. Then the trailer came along to teach you a lesson on insanity.

The end might indeed be high for Kazuma Kiryu, the main protagonist for Sega's mega-popular Yakuza series.

Earlier before the commencement of Tokyo Game Show 2010, promotional image for the game has shown the series'main locale, Kamurocho (a thinly-veiled analogue for the real-life Kabukicho) in apocalyptic ruins. Rumors of a zombie apocalypse were later confirmed by leaked scans of the Famitsu issue that revealed that a full-blown zombie outbreak has indeed broke loose in Kamurocho.

Set during April 2011, all the residents of Kamurocho have apparently become zombies. As the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Forces quarantines the area in an unsuccessful effort to contain the outbreak, only one soldier remains alive, Misuzu Asagi.

Meanwhile, now-retired legendary Yakuza, Kazuma Kiryu returns from his seclusion in Okinawa after receiving a phone call from a mysterious man who has kidnapped Haruka. Caught in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, Kiryu, along with the Dragon of Kansai who has finally awoken from a long sleep, Ryuji Goda, mysterious money-lender Shun Akiyama, feared yakuza and construction company owner "Mad Dog" Goro Majima, formed a four-men alliance against the undead. However, like most other zombie flicks, they will not only be fighting off the undead.

Images unveiled thus far has indicated some major depart from the series both in terms of gameplay and general tone of the plot, as an emphasis on gunplay is in place, complete with a character with a mechanical hands that can be transformed into a machine gun.

Developed and published by Sega exclusively for the PlayStation 3, the seventh installment in the Yakuza series, Ryū ga Gotoku Of the End (龍が如く Of the End), is slated to be released in 2011. Check out the screenshots released right after the trailer below.
