The Dark Knight Rises In 2012

The sequel to "The Dark Knight" gets a name.

In an exclusive interview with Hero Complex, Christopher Nolan finally broke his silence over the upcoming sequel to the critically acclaimed blockbuster, "The Dark Knight".

And it is "The Dark Knight Rises". A simple and precise name, I must add. Took some time getting used to, but I'm warming up to it.

Along with the official naming of the sequel, set to be released on July 20th, 2012, Nolan has also ruled out The Riddler, AKA Edward Nigma, as the villain of the sequel, to the surprise of many online boards dwellers who have been following the much speculated rumor.

With that, we had two members (Mr. Freeze has been ruled out way earlier) in the Caped Crusader's infamous Rogues Gallery ruled out. The mystery over who will be the chief villain/s in the second sequel of the universally acclaimed series thickens. With the involvement of Tom Hardy still unconfirmed, there's quite a handful to consider about. Geoff Boucher, who conducted the interview, interestingly pondered over the likelihood of a returning Harvey "Two-Face" Dent, referencing an earlier comment by Nolan that "The Dark Knight" refers just as much to Harvey Dent as it does to Batman. Will Two-Face get to rise as well? It will make perfect sense though, further strengthening the continuity of the self-contained trilogy.

In addition, a good news for many (definitely including me) and a bad news for the 3D enthusiasts, Nolan has also confirmed that he had won the argument with Warner Bros. over the issue of jumping on the current in-vogue 3D wagon, and will be sticking to his usage of IMAX cameras. And that is indeed, something most commendable, both for the director's persistence in sticking to his very own vision, and Warner Bros.'s eventual resistance against a considerably much profitable strategy.

Do check out the interesting interview over at Hero Complex .

Based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer, "The Dark Knight Rises" will again be scripted by Christopher and Jonah Nolan, and is scheduled to be released on July 20, 2012.
