Prepare yourself for the greatest money-making opportunity ever. And yes, she knew anyone else could have done it, but it simply occurred to her first.

For 4.6 billion years, we puny mankind has enjoyed the warmth, light, and energy that he Sun has provided, taking for granted what the great ball of fire has contributed throughout the ages. And now, get ready for the greatest slap in the face, particularly so for those money-grabbing assholes out there, the Sun has an owner now, and she's gonna charge mankind for using it.

Angeles Duran, a 40-year-old woman from the Spanish region of Galicia, had registered the star at a local notary public as her property, after reading about an American man who had registered his ownership of the moon and most planets in our Solar System.

For those in question of the lady's sanity, hold your horses. It appears that she had some legal grounds on this.

"There is an international agreement which states that no country may claim ownership of a planet or star, but it says nothing about individuals. There was no snag, I backed my claim legally, I am not stupid, I know the law. I did it but anyone else could have done it, it simply occurred to me first."

Duran is now declared by the notary public as the "owner of the Sun, a star of spectral type G2, located in the centre of the solar system, located at an average distance from Earth of about 149,600,000 kilometres". The extraordinarily peculiar lady is now working out the charges that she will be slapping on everyone for using the Sun. Here's brief rundown of the sum:

50% to the Spanish government,
20% to the nation's pension fund,
10% to research,
10% to ending world hunger, and finally,
a meager 10% for herself.

And now, a parting quote from the Sun-owner to end this uplifting news item.

"It is time to start doing things the right way, if there is an idea for how to generate income and improve the economy and people's well-being, why not do it?"
