Get ready to dismember more monstrosities this January with our big blowout preview on Electronic Arts and Visceral's upcoming Sci-Fi Survival Horror game, Dead Space 2.

Being big fans of Dead Space, we have been covering Dead Space 2, Visceral's upcoming sequel to the critically acclaimed Survival Horror third-person shooter, since the official announcement of the project in May. After numerous posts (here, here, here, and here) on the sequel, here we are less than a month away from the release of the title on January 25th, 2011. There is no doubt that fans of the title must have downloaded the free playable demo that was released for the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network on December 21st, 2010. We did and we dig what we saw. The sequel has indeed, pardon us for likely misuse of the cliché, gotten bigger, badder, and more importantly, better.

For those who would like to have a recap on what transpired in the original Dead Space, Visceral has thankfully put up a special trailer with all the elaborate details on the plot thus far. Hit the jump to check the video.

Armed with a new, cool suit, Isaac Clarke, barely surviving the USG Ishimura incident that occurred three years ago, still finds himself suffering unknown maddening mental issues (not to mention apparent PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) caused by his experiences with the mysterious "marker" aboard the Ishimura in his previous misadventure in "Dead Space". Now residing in a densely populated space station dubbed the "Sprawl", he can however forget about recuperation, as the nightmare that has haunted him returns with more conspiracy and monstrosities, as yet another Necromorph infection approaches "Sprawl" for reasons unknown.

Apart from the single player story mode, Visceral has developed considerable efforts in further expanding the gameplay experience with the multiplayer mode. A closed multiplayer beta were conducted since September. Consisting of a 4 vs 4 setup, a team of humans, while trying to complete an objective, were pitted against another team of Necromorphs, who are tasked to stop the humans from achieving their goal.
