Grave Encounters: Undead Monday

Hated Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, and all those pseudo-paranormal reality TV piece-of-crap? Then you gonna love this.

Pseudo-documentaries and faux found footages film have been on the rise lately (with Cloverfield, and the Paranormal Activities series, along with Singapore's very own Changi Hospital being the most recent addition) and it is only a matter of time till someone come out with a riff on the Blair Witch Project by adding in a flair of reality TV for a little zeitgeist touch on the old genre.

Bearing an intentional resemblance to Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures, "Grave Encounters", an independent film by the Vicious Brothers, chronicles the fateful shooting of the (obviously) final episode of a paranormal reality TV series, the eponymous Grave Encounters. A surprisingly apt subject given the excessive rave of reality TV crap these days. Being the skeptic that we are towards overt-elaborated street magic shows and pseudo paranormal reality TV, this makes the perfect logical sense. Imagine if a TV production crew enters a genuinely haunted house, you have to wonder: Can they survive the shooting?

Being a low-budgeted production, the trailer of the film worked just fine to set up the atmosphere. Check it out right after the jump.

The official synopsis:

LANCE PRESTON (Sean Rogerson) and the crew of "Grave Encounters", a ghost-hunting reality television show, are shooting an episode inside the abandoned Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, where unexplained phenomena has been reported for years.

All in the name of good television, they voluntarily lock themselves inside the building for the night and begin a paranormal investigation, capturing everything on camera.

They quickly realize that the building is more than just haunted - it is alive - and it has no intention of ever letting them leave. They find themselves lost in a labyrinth of endless hallways and corridors, terrorized by the ghosts of the former patients.

They soon begin to question their own sanity, slipping deeper and deeper into the depths of madness, ultimately discovering the truth behind the hospital's dark past... and taping what will be their final episode.

In summary, the crew went from this... this.
