We all know Lara Croft, the beloved and somewhat fallen gaming icon, will be getting a reboot some time this year. But hell do we realize the depths of her predicament as we witness her fall (and inevitable eventual rise).

Designed as a "reboot" with the intention to reconstruct the popular gaming icon, Crystal Dynamics's upcoming Tomb Raider is reportedly focused on Lara Croft's coming-of-tale as the young and inexperienced Tomb Raider found herself against tumultuous odds when stranded on an island.

In our earlier coverage on Game Informer's exclusive reveal, we have had a sneak peek at Lara Croft's upcoming misadventures. Game Informer has released the official synopsis on the story of the reboot in their January issue:

Fresh from academy and in search of lost relics, a 21-year-old Lara Croft journeys to an island off the coast of Japan aboard the Endurance, a salvage vessel helmed by Captain Conrad Roth. Before anchoring at bay, the ship is wrecked by an unforeseen storm leaving Croft separated from other survivors and washed ashore. She must endure physical and emotional torture in order to survive the island.

Game Informer has set up a big gallery of screenshots, concept arts of the game at their site. Hit the jump to check out these awesome images in high resolution.
