80s X-Men, E.C. Segar Style

Posted by Grey Tuesday, February 1, 2011

It's a blast from comic book past, and a double dosage one at that.

Best-known for being the creator of Popeye, Elzie Crisler Segar (December 8, 1894 – October 13, 1938), known as E. C. Segar to the general public, is without a shadow of a doubt, an iconic cartoonist that paved the way for many to come.

So it is with great joy to see illustrator Ben Towle channeled the spirit of E.C. Segar in this rendition of the X-Men, circa 1982's X-Men/Teen Titans crossover.

Here's the process from pencils, ink to the final product.
