Hornschemeier & Beaton Covers Strange Tales II's Collected Edition
Our love for the endearingly quirky Marvel oddball project, Strange Tales, have been well-documented. Now Marvel can pat themselves on the back with this nice little touch on the design of the collected edition of the second volume. It's times like this that make me feel great sitting out limited series just ot wait for it to be collected in a gorgeous format.
The winning combination of underground meets mainstream comics have made Marvel's Strange Tales one of the best pleasant surprise of recent years. With the release of the collected edition of its second volume, Marvel has cleverly engaged cartoonist Paul Hornschemeier for the cover design, as unveiled by Hornschemeier in his blog.
Tapping onto the cool art of Kate Beston, here's a look at the awesome cover. Here's Hornschemeier's thought on the work, from his blog:
I just completed the cover designs for Marvel's Strange Tales II collection, due out in April. It was a pleasure to work on the project, with the only difficulty being what to choose out of all the great art in the series. But there was one person whose work I knew I wanted on the cover before I even began sorting through the files: Kate Beaton, who is, in my humble opinion, one of the best, most pitch-perfect cartoonists working today.
