Live-Action Voltron Tearing Into Hollywood

Move over, Transformers and your vehicle-transforming robots. It's time for another breed of robots to shine in Hollywood.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Optimus Prime. We all know that by now that the much-riled Transformers film series directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg would be concluding with this Summer's Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Before you get all panicky over the lack of a robotic showdown in the big screen anytime soon, take comfort in the fact that the live-action film adaptation of another 1980s iconic animation series is progressing positively.

In this report by Vulture, Relativity Media and World Events, both rival film studios in an ongoing war over the movie rights of the hot nostalgic property, have reportedly entered a bidding war on who would make the film. Titled as "Voltron: Defender of the Universe", the script of the live-action movie is currently written by Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

For those who missed out on the wonderful 80s, Nickelodeon would be premiering Voltron Force, a reboot of the original this May. For the uninformed, the original Voltron, AKA Voltron: Defender of the Universe, featured a team of five young pilots commanding five robot lions which could be combined to form Voltron. Together, the Voltron Force protects the planet Arus from ruthless invasion from the forces of "Robeasts", led by the evil King Zarkon, from planet Doom.
