Hot off his successful bid at the Oscars, Mr. Nine Inch Nail, Trent Reznor has confirmed the much-speculated online rumor that he will be scoring and appearing in Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Confession: I have not had the opportunity of reading Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, the relatively well-received mash-up novel written by Seth Grahame-Smith. But news of its film adaptation, despite the involvement of talented Russian director, producer and screenwriter, Timur Bekmambetov (who directed the Russian film "Night Watch", its sequel "Day Watch", and the film adaptation of Mark Millar's "Wanted"), does not excites nor interests me in any capacity. Until now.

Addressing his fans in the Nine Inch Nails forum, Trent Reznor, the brains behind industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, talked about the upcoming How To Destroy Angels record, the undead status of Nine Inch Nails, his work on scoring David Fincher's next film, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" along with composing partner Atticus Ross, and more importantly, his appearance and scoring Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

He asked me if I was interested in scoring his new film he's doing with Tim Burton entitled "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter". I was familiar with the book, read the script and it felt like an interesting challenge as a composer - very different from the Fincher films. While discussing the film with Timur he started gently pressing me to play a small role in the film. The idea was a cameo-esque role that would be kept under wraps and be a surprise around opening night. I was considering this when I awoke a few days ago to the news I am now STARRING in ALVH (which is obviously not true). Fuck. We both apparently forgot the internet existed AND THERE ARE NO SURPRISES anymore.
So... do me a favor and act surprised, OK?

Reportedly, Reznor will be playing the role of Jack Barts, the vampire who killed Abraham Lincoln's beloved mother Nancy Hanks Lincoln, and thereby kicking off Lincoln's lifelong career of vampire-hunting.

Benjamin Walker will be playing the eponymous role of Abraham Lincoln, while Mary Elizabeth Winstead was cast as Mary Todd Lincoln.

The film is scheduled for release on June 22nd, 2012.

Update: Apparently, Reznor will not be scoring or acting in the film after all, as posted in the Nine Inch Nails Forum:

Don't believe everything you read. As it turns out, I WON'T be working on (acting or scoring) ALVH after all. There's no juicy story here, it's just that when the news mysteriously leaked out about my involvement I hadn't made up my mind completely, because various aspects of the project were changing. I felt the need to say something earlier this week because my inbox was filling up with speculation, and at that moment I thought I would be doing it. Confused yet? Apparently I am.
Bottom line, I wish them the best with the film and I'm sure it will still be great.
