Cars 2 Preview: Trailers & Posters

The world is wondering: Has Pixar finally jumped the shark with this year's offering, Cars 2? We here at The Daily Zombies give our best shot in answering this one.

For the uninformed, Cars 2, featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer, is slated to be release in Disney Digital 3-D, IMAX 3D, RealD 3D and 2-D (goddamn 3D gimmicks) in the US on June 24th and in the UK on July 22nd.

Directed once again by John Lasseter, Cars 2, the second Pixar film, after Toy Story, to have a sequel, has been under the questioning eyes of skeptics everywhere. While there is no doubt that what Pixar has achieved are highly unlikely to be duplicated by anyone in the animation business, 2006's Cars, while entertaining and interesting like any other Pixar offerings, lacked the emotional pull and depth that one can always expect in a Pixar film. Which explains the general skepticism for the upcoming Cars 2.

However, yours truly particularly remembered being skeptical over 2008's WALL-E, which eventually (not to mention, effortlessly) found its way into one of my favorite animation ever. In addition, the very same skepticism last reared its ugly face in last year's Toy Story 3, which as we all know, blow up in our collective faces as, again one of the finest pieces of animation you can find anywhere around the world.

Based on these previous misgivings I had with Pixar's offerings, we opined to welcome the film with open arms and a positive attitude. At the very least, what we observed from the trailer promised one rip-roaring adventure. The "Tow-mater... Average Intelligence" line was quite a blast.

Hit the jump to check out the two trailers that was recently released.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in “Cars 2″ when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.

Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.

Straight from Disney and Pixar's efficient promotional team, here's one truly amazing monster-sized triptych image depicting scenes across Tokyo, London and Italy. The incredible image that captured 415 posed characters, reportedly took a total of five months, and a team of 20-25 people to create. Click on the image to view it in the only way that does justice to its grandeur.

To further prove my earlier point on the extremely capable work from the promotional team, Disney and Pixar have also rolled out a series of retro-styled posters for the film. Here's a lesson in graphic promotion to you, 20th Century Fox and Marvel. Check out these cool posters right after the jump.

Apart from these special posters, a series of more conventional posters were also released earlier.
