The Darkness II: Gameplay Trailer - E3 2011

Posted by Grey Saturday, June 4, 2011

Jackie Estacado, the unfortunate wielder of the Darkness cum hitman for the mob, will be making his long-awaited return in your gaming consoles this October. With the impending E3, take a look at the first gameplay trailer from the game.

Released in 2007 by 2K Games and developer Starbreeze Studios, The Darkness was surprisingly a pleasant First-Person Shooter despite earlier misgivings writing it off as the usual comic-to-game fare. Capturing the dark spirit of the original Top Cow comic series created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis, and David Wohl, the game also featured the voice of Mike Patton, the lead singer of Faith No More, as the voice of the Darkness. Due to its often violent contents and mildly disturbing theme, the censorship board in Singapore even banned the game for excessive violence and religiously offensive expletives before lifting the ban for a M18 rating in 2009.

Ahead of the upcoming E3, 2K Games has announced a sequel to the often underrated game last month. However, Starbreeze Studios will no longer be developing the game as Canada-based studio Digital Extremes take over the rein of the sequel.

Picking two years after the first game, Jackie Estacado, still the wielder of the Darkness, is now the Don of the Franchetti crime family. However he remained shaken by the tragic death of his girlfriend Jenny and is still constant conflict with the Darkness. Along came an all-new antagonist set to take over the powers of the Darkness for himself.

In a depart from the first game, the sequel will be employing a cel-shading technique for the game texture. In addition to the FPS gameplay, a new tactic known as "quad wielding" will be in place, allowing player to utilize Jackie's darkness powers while simultaneously employing his firearms actions.

The Darkness II is scheduled to launch on October 4th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
