Prepare yourself for "The Feel-Bad Movie of Christmas" this year.

Out of all three pictures in the critically acclaimed Swedish film series adapting Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy, the first entry, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Män som hatar kvinnor, literally Men Who Hate Women) directed by Niels Arden Oplev is easily the most intriguing. With a solid mystery and an almost mystical backdrop on the tiny island of Hedeby, it is the film's central protagonist, Lisbeth Salander, wonderfully portrayed by Noomi Rapace, that illuminated the entire tale of true evil and deceit.

Then came news of the inevitable Hollywood remake.

While one can't help but wonder if the upcoming film will be an intelligent remake, the regular exercise in futility (when it comes to Hollywood remakes), or perhaps is just an option for those had problem following a film while read subtitles, it is the news of David Fincher helming the US remake that have us here at The Daily Zombies to lean more on the optimist view. And now you have a trailer to make the judgment yourself.

Released earlier as a "Red Band" trailer purportedly recorded illegally inside a European theater, the clip was heavily circulated online before taken down by Sony earlier yesterday. While the MPAA warning before the video, along with the relatively decent sound quality has some speculating that the leaked clip was planted by Sony Pictures, spokesperson from Sony soon retorted the theory, claiming that the clip could be recorded stateside as the trailer was played in some US theaters before "The Hangover Part II". Nonetheless, we were expecting that Sony will be releasing the trailer after taking down the clip, and here we are, with the official trailer for the film right after the jump.

While it is somewhat a pity that it ain't the "Red Band" version released earlier, there is still no doubt that this is one ass-kicking trailer, many thanks to the rocking beats of Trent Reznor and Karen O's cover of Led Zeppelin’s The Immigrant Song, and the cool cutting of gritty imagery one can expect from Fincher.

That said, while the trailer shown less than the "Red Band" trailer, we are somewhat surprised at some key moments and revelations shown in it. But perhaps these images only seemed "spoilery" to those who have read the books or watched the Swedish films.

While we remained unconvinced yet at the neccsity of having an English remake of the film, David Fincher's dark, moody style is undoubtedly a clear fit for the theme of the film and Rooney Mara has also surprisingly transformed herself to look the part of Lisbeth Salander. Here are a round-up of the images released thus far with Mara in the character of Lisbeth.

Meanwhile, two international posters of the film have gone online. Sharing basically the same image, the first one might be a little NSFW, with Mara's pierced nipples exposed.

Update: Here are the higher resolution version of the posters.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is currently scheduled to hit the theaters on December 21.
