Don't Be Afraid of the Dark Preview: Undead Monday

Posted by Grey Monday, June 6, 2011

This Undead Monday, witness the creepy gremlins/goblins-like creatures in the trailer of the upcoming remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, c0-written and produced by horror visionary, Guillermo del Toro.

We have earlier rambled about director Guillermo del Toro's insane amount of work, and with this film, we see yet another shining example, with del Toro sharing the co-writing credits with Matthew Robbins, as well as the producing duties. A remake of an 1973 ABC TV movie that del Toro called "the scariest TV production ever made", "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" takes a slight depart from the original film by featuring a young girl as its protagonist. Despite having a young protagonist, the film's attempt for a PG-13 failed with MPAA rating the film "R" for violence and terror. While the plot of the film sounded mostly familiar, it is interesting to look at the influence del Toro had on first-time director Troy Nixey in exploring the horror elements of the film.

Check out the latest trailer which has been recently released.

Here is the official synopsis for the film:

Guillermo del Toro presents DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, a horror film starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison, directed by Troy Nixey. Based on the 1973 telefilm that del Toro believes is the scariest TV production ever made, the story follows Sally (Madison), a young girl who moves to Rhode Island to live with her father (Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Holmes) in the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the house, Sally starts to hear voices coming from creatures in the basement whose hidden agenda is to claim her as one of their own. Akin to del Toro’s PAN’S LABYRINTH, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK focuses on a young girl’s struggle against menacing and terrifying forces.

The poster of the film evokes nostalgic feelings of horror films of yesteryears.
