Agent 47 is back.

Agent 47, the cold-hearted protagonist in IO Interactive's Hitman makes his return in the upcoming fifth installment of the Hitman series.

The first title in the series to be published by Square Enix, after their 2009 acquisition of Eidos Interactive, Hitman: Absolution is also the franchise's first showing on the PlayStation 3 with the last title in series being 2006's Hitman: Blood Money. With the new installment running on IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier 2 game engine, new game mechanics will be imposed on the classic Hitman gameplay style that fans have been familiar with.

A brand new element added would be the a new mode known as "Instinct", which is similar to Batman: Arkham Asylum's much-praised Detective Mode. Allowing players into Agent 47's perspective, the mode would be darkened with escape routes, weapons, and other interesting features being illuminated.

In addition, the new title promised fans that for the first time, players will enter the mysterious psyche of Agent 47, allowing them insights into the cold-blooded assassin.

The official synopsis of the game:

HITMAN ABSOLUTION follows cold-blooded assassin Agent 47™ as he takes on his most dangerous contract to date. Betrayed by those he once trusted, and hunted by the police, he suddenly finds himself at the center of a dark conspiracy and must embark on a journey through a corrupt and twisted world.

Showcasing IO Interactive's new proprietary Glacier 2™ technology, the game has been built from the ground up. Boasting a cinematic story, distinctive art direction and highly original game design, HITMAN ABSOLUTION combines much-loved classic gameplay with features never seen before in the Hitman franchise.

Without further ado, here's the all-too-brief trailer released during E3, followed by some of the screenshots of the new title.
