Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Announced: E3 2011

Konami automatically won the pre-E3 warfare with a stellar announcement: The HD compilation re-releases of Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders on the PlayStation and Xbox 360.

Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2011 doesn't offically kick off till Monday but Konami has been automatically declared the winner of the pre-E3 warfare with a move most synonymous with fan service.

Announced yesterday in a pre-E3 press conference, Konami will be releasing HD compilations of two of its most popular franchises, Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders, on the PlayStation 3, and for the first time ever, Xbox 360.

While the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will contain Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the Zone of the Enders HD Collection will pack both Zone of Enders and Zone of the Enders 2. Optimized and rebuilt for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, new features includes new user interfaces for the HD resolutions, redrawn art, brand new Trophies/Achievements, right analog stick and rumble support, and improved audio.

While there were earlier some confusion over the contents of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, it has now been confirmed that all three titles will be included in its Western release while in its Japanese release, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be released by its own. Series creator Hideo Kojima has also pointed out that the release of Peace Walker will not be part of the PSP Remaster series, but is considered as part of the Metal Gear Solid HD collection.

Accordingly, the PS3 version of the critically acclaimed PSP title will also include a product code for downloading the PSP version of Peace Walker to the PSP. In addition, both compilation will be spotting a new feature Konami called "Transfarring". No, there is not a typo. Transfarring allows PlayStation 3 and PSP owners to share one save that works between the two versions of a game like Peace Walker. Strangely, the "Transfarring" feature will also be in the Zone of the Enders HD Collection as well, generating speculations of a possible PSP or NGP release of a ZOE title. Till now, Konami is decidedly coy about this point, indicating that more information will be release later.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is currently scheduled to be released this November, while the Zone of the Enders HD Collection will be available in 2012. Meanwhile, Konami has also indicated plans for a Silent Hill HD collection.

In the meantime, hit the jump to check out some of the screen comparison between the original titles and the HD remastered versions.
