The Hunger Games: Motion Poster Unveiled

It's game on as Lionsgate unveiled the first motion poster for the live-action adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel series, The Hunger Games trilogy.

With the Harry Potter franchise coming to an end this year while Twilight gave its final two shots before closing off its lucrative movie adaptation interests, every major movie studios out there are on a desperate search for the next lucrative family-friendly fantasy franchise. With the live-action adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel series, The Hunger Games trilogy, Lionsgate might just be the next in line for a stab at the position.

A young-adult science fiction adventure novel series, The Hunger Games trilogy consists of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay, all regular best-sellers upon their release. The first film in the planned trilogy stars Jennifer Lawrence (last seen in X-Men: First Class as Mystique) as Katniss Everdeen, the 16-year-old protagonist chosen in a survival battle to the death in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Fighting against other children chosen from each of the country's 12 districts, it is a fight to the end where the only survivor is the winner.

As much as how the entire premise really sounded a rehash of Japanese author Koushun Takami's Battle Royale novel and its film adaptation, long-time fans of the series would have you believe that there are more than meet the eyes in the series.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES will be directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Collins’ best-selling novel, which has over 3 million copies in print in the United States alone, is the first in a trilogy of novels which have developed a global following.
