The best-selling comic book of all time returns this October.

It is almost unbelievable that X-Men #1, written by by Chris Claremont with art by Jim Lee and Scott Williams, was published two decades ago in 1991. We can still remember how we dug deep into our pockets just to grab every four covers of the issue only to learnt that they are releasing a fifth edition with a mega-gatefold cover complete with the entire sweepingly awesome cover art. Yes, that was the beginning of our intense hatred for variant covers.

Back to the topic on hand, Marvel has made the official announcement that they will be re-releasing X-Men #1 in a recolored and remasted 20th anniversary edition this October. Notable for making it in the Guinness World Records as the best-selling comic book of all time, X-Men #1, the special issue will be getting a touch of the contemporary by colorist Thomas Mason. An interview with Mason on the project can be found on Marvel.com. In the meantime, hit the jump to check out a comparison of the original and recolored covers, as well as some samples of the remastered work.
