Awesome Art from a (Cancelled) Metallica Game

Feast yourself upon the amazing previously-unreleased concept art for a cancelled PlayStation 2 video game featuring the members from Metallica in a post-apocalyptic mad-max-like world.

The works of Calum Alexander Watt has long amazed us. And with his most recent post entitled "BLAST from the Past #001", we are once again in awe of the British artist's incredible abilities with this most intriguing reveal.

Apparently, some time back in 2003, Calum Alexander Watt was commissioned to work on a "post-apocalyptic driving/adventure game" developed by the now-defunct Black Rock Studio for the PlayStation 2. However, apart from a lackluster trailer included on copies of Metallica's eighth studio album, St. Anger, in 2003, the title never move beyond the conception stage. We probably can never confirm the actual existence of the title, had it not for the artist's reveal at his blog.

In the artist's own words:

For a while it was illegal to post these anywhere,
it may still be, who knows!
Anyway, designs for a PS2 postapocalyptic driving/adventure game
(set to the sounds, and including the members, of a
popular anti-Napster mega band)
Dating from 2003 to 2004.

Now hit the jump to feast on the exhilarating art of Calum Alexander Watt, amazingly mashing Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield and Robert Trujillo into a post-apocalyptic Mad-Max world crossed with the pseudo-realistic style of high quality animes like Akira and Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.

And here's that lackluster trailer I was talking about.
