We take a sneak peek at the animated adaptation of Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One" in the latest offering from the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series.

First published in Batman #404-407 in 1987, "Batman: Year One", written by Frank Miller, illustrated by David Mazzucchelli, has long been considered as one of the greatest Batman stories ever. A major influence and inspiration for numerous Batman works including Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, a live-action adaptation of the story has been long-rumored with both director Darren Aronofsky and Miller himself involved but remained firmly in production limbo.

With the consistent success of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series, Bruce Timm, the animator renowned for his work on the DC animated universe, was approached to produce an animated adaptation of the seminal Dark Knight tales. Featuring the voices of Benjamin McKenzie as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Bryan Cranston as James Gordon, Eliza Dushku as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Katee Sackhoff as Sarah Essen, Grey DeLisle as Barbara Gordon, Jon Polito as Commissioner Loeb, and Alex Rocco as Carmine 'The Roman' Falcone, Batman: Year One premiered at Comic-Con, with direct-to-video DVD and Blu-ray available on October 18th.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Batman: Year One is based on the landmark 1987 DC Comics titles from 12-time Eisner Award winner Frank Miller and illustrator David Mazzucchelli. The film depicts young Bruce Wayne’s return to Gotham City in his first attempts to fight injustice as a costumed vigilante. The playboy billionaire chooses the guise of a giant bat to combat crime, creates an early bond with a young Lieutenant James Gordon (who is already battling corruption from inside the police department), inadvertently plays a role in the birth of Catwoman, and helps to bring down a crooked political system that infests Gotham.
