Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Preview

Posted by Grey Wednesday, October 19, 2011

Come next month, Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Capcom's expansion edition of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds will be released. The Daily Zombies weigh in on the necessity of the title with the aid of newly-released information from the recently ended New York Comic-Con.

With the million-dollar question on hand, this preview will be conducted in an atypical manner.

The Question:

"If you already owned Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, is it still necessary for you get Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 for a discount retail price?"

We understand that if you are one of those owners of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds who already made up their mind about Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, the inevitable "bigger, badder" expansion edition that will selling at least twenty bucks cheaper than its original, then this must be the question on your mind.

First and foremost, in order to answer the golden question, you have to ask yourself these few questions:

1) Does the prospects of beating the game with the twelve new characters (Doctor Strange, Firebrand, Frank West, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Iron Fist, Nemesis T-Type, Nova, Phoenix Wright, Rocket Raccoon, Strider Hiryu, and Vergil) entice you?

For those wondering how Phoenix Wright, the the main protagonist from Capcom's Ace Attorney video game series, actually fights, check out this newly-released gameplay sequence featuring the maverick defense attorney in action.

And here's the latest trailer released during the recently ended New York Comic-Con for you to recap the cast.

2) Does the new "Heroes and Heralds" mode interest you?

An all-new single-player and multiplayer, team-based mode similar to the earlier announced Gem mode on Street Fighter X Tekken, players can earn new abilities with "ability cards" during fights. These new abilities include customization of their characters with unlocking of special power-ups, such as invisibility and super armor during mode-specific fights. In addition, players can compete in factions as either the Heroes defending Earth or as one of Galactus’ Heralds.

3) Intrigued by the new Marvel maps?

Two new maps representing Marvel, namely "The City Never Sleeps" and "Days of Future Past," will be available. In "The City Never Sleeps", expect tonnes of Easter eggs for the Marvel Zombies from the offices of Nelson & Murdock, Heroes For Hire, to Oscorp. In "Days of Future Past," the apocalyptic alternate future from the classic Chris Claremont/John Byrne arc on Uncanny X-Men is revisited with the presence of Sentinels and the iconic poster from the cover of Uncanny X-Men #141 on display.

4) Dig playing as the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus?

It's no secret that the big, and we mean BIG bad evil boss of the game is Galactus, the infamous Devourer of Worlds. However, the big man remained non-playable even when you have the game beat... until now. Here's a clip of a player-controlled Galactus in action.

5) Thought the game needs some rebalancing?

Animation tweaks and some balancing of the characters's moves as well as online functionality have been implemented.

6} Fans of alternate costumes for your characters?

Accordingly, all characters will be playable in up to six alternate looks respectively.

Here's a brief rundown for some of them.

The Answer:
With all the above questions answered, you must have already gotten your very own answer.

In parting, the latest trailer from NYCC.

For the uninformed, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will also be a launch title for the much-anticipated PlayStation Vita in December. Here's the Japanese box art.
