The Hunger Games: New Trailer & Posters

Let the Game begin. We take yet another look at the live-action adaptation of the first chapter in Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel series, The Hunger Games trilogy, with the release of the first theatrical trailer of the much-anticipated film.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the next main contender to the throne of teenage Hollywood blockbuster after the end of lucrative film franchises like Harry Potter and Twilight would have to be Gary Ross'live-action adaptation of The Hunger Games, the first chapter in Suzanne Collins’ best-selling young-adult science fiction adventure novel series, The Hunger Games trilogy. We have earlier unveiled the first poster and the teaser trailer of the film. This week, Lionsgate has released a new trailer for the film, giving the audience a better sense of the post-apocalyptic country of Panem where children from each of the country's 12 districts gathered in a battle to the death where the sole survivor is the winner.

Hit the jump to check out Elizabeth Banks's creepy Effie Trinket, Woody Harrelson's Haymitch Abernathy, and Lenny Kravitz's Cinna in this cool new trailer (head over to Apple to see the trailer in HD).

For those find the trailer to be too fast-paced and would like to check out the nitty bitty details, head over to iO9 where a close analysis on the trailer is on hand, complete with a detailed screen captures gallery.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.

And here are the character banners from the film.

Here are the propaganda-style posters for the twelve districts and the Capital in the film.

The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, as well as Donald Sutherland, and is set to be released on March 23rd, 2012, with a film adaptation of Catching Fire, the second novel in The Hunger Games trilogy scheduled to be released on November 22nd, 2013.
