Mirror Mirror: First Look

Hot off the heels of the first trailer of Universal Pictures' Snow White and the Huntsman, check out yet another Hollywood take on Brothers Grimm's well-known fairy tale of Snow White in the first trailer of Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror.

Last week, we saw the release of the first trailer of Universal Pictures' Snow White and the Huntsman, and we have to admit that on the strength of the trailer as well as the other promotional materials, the film's dark epic vision seems to be as intriguing as it might get for a film based on such a well-known fairy tale.

In our preview for Snow White and the Huntsman, we also mentioned about Relativity Media's Mirror Mirror, the other revisionist take on the timeless fairy tale directed by Tarsem Singh, the director who brought us The Cell, and the recently-in-cinema Immortals. This week, in an oblivious response to Universal's unveiling of their Snow White, Relativity Media has released the first trailer of Mirror Mirror, showcasing the more family-friendly, light-hearted take of the fairy tale, translating into something closer to the realm of unspeakable horror to us here at The Daily Zombies. And here we thought when we mentioned the word "unspeakable horror" when talking about a film directed by Tarsem Singh, we meant it in a good way. No chance in hell here. This is Julia Roberts in unbearable overdrive with all the cast sporting all kinds of cheesy comedic antics in a film that is Shrek went wrong. Way wrong.

Hit the jump to embrace the horror.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

In Relativity’s Mirror Mirror starring Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts and breakout star Lily Collins (The Blind Side), an evil Queen (Roberts) steals control of a kingdom, and an exiled princess (Collins) enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over. The film also stars Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the object of their affection, Prince Andrew Alcott, and Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen.

Starring Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, and Sean Bean as Snow White, The Evil Queen, Prince Andrew Alcott, and The King, respectively, Mirror Mirror is directed by Tarsem Singh and is currently scheduled for a March 16th, 2012 release.

And here are some of the promotional images released by Relativity Media.
