Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic Comic - Zombie of the Week

Zombie Apocalypse? Once again, CDC is here to help. Yeah, that CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

Back in May, we reported on Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse, an article posted by CDC, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, advising the dos-and-donts in the face of a Zombie Apocalypse. An adequately realistic read with some inevitable dosages of humor, the article was widely circulated on the internet. Now, perhaps prompted by the unexpected popularity of the post, CDC has released a free downloadable comic with the same title, Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic.

In a report by USA Today, the comic was first released at New York Comic-Con when Ali Khan, the director of the CDC's Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, handed out free printed copies at the "Zombie Summit: How to Survive the Inevitable Zombie Apocalypse" panel.

Following the adventures of a young couple and their dog, the comic takes a somewhat different approach towards the subject material, being a composite article that walk a fine line between full-blown survival horror and an actual instructional guide onpreparedness against crisis.

From CDC's official press release:

CDC has a fun new way of teaching the importance of emergency preparedness. Our new graphic novel, "Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic" demonstrates the importance of being prepared in an entertaining way that people of all ages will enjoy. Readers follow Todd, Julie, and their dog Max as a strange new disease begins spreading, turning ordinary people into zombies. Stick around to the end for a surprising twist that will drive home the importance of being prepared for any emergency. Included in the novel is a Preparedness Checklist so that readers can get their family, workplace, or school ready before disaster strikes.

For any self-respecting zombie fan, do check out the comic for an unique sequential art experience of the undead with a strong dose of realism.
