John Carter: New Trailer, Poster & Promotional Images

Posted by Grey Friday, December 2, 2011

We take another look at Andrew Stanton's live-action directorial debut of Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic character, John Carter of Mars, with the release of new promotional materials from the film.

Back in July, we have had our first comprehensive look at Disney's John Carter, the upcoming science fiction epic film featuring John Carter, the popular protagonist of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Barsoom series (for those unfamiliar with the character, do check out our earlier preview to learn more).

However, a more important point to us would be the fact that the film marks the first live-action directorial debut of director Andrew Stanton, who was incidentally the director of Finding Nemo and WALL-E, both the winner of the respective year's Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Given Stanton's past accolades, we are rooting for this one.

With John Carter pushing ever so closely towards its eventual release date on March 9th next year, Walt Disney Pictures has activated its promotional engines, launching a new trailer as well as promotional images from the film.

Aptly set to an arranged tune of Led Zeppelin's all-time classic track, Kashmir, the new trailer takes a depart from the brooding grandeur of the first, and deliver some pretty impressive fast-paced action sequences. With no further ado, hit the jump to check out the trailer, complete with a brief intro from the director Andrew Stanton himself.

As usual, you can head to iO9 for their regular breakdown of film trailer for this one.

And here are new images from the film, giving us a good look at the cast including Willem Dafoe's Tars Tarkas.

And here's the official synopsis for the film:

From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"--a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
