Batman vs. L.A. Noire vs. Portal

Posted by Grey

Two of the greatest detectives in pop culture collides to investigate one mysterious "portal" in this mash-up art.

In this stylistic mash-up art by artist Dan Matutina, the timeless iconic detective Batman collaborate with L.A. Noire's very own Detective Cole Phelps to investigate what is apparently a Portal from Valve Corporation's critically acclaimed first-person puzzle-platform video game series.

The piece is now available as an art print for several sizes.

In the artist's own words:

Fine art print on natural white, matte, ultra smooth, 100% cotton rag, acid and lignin free archival paper using an advanced digital dry ink method to ensure vibrant image quality. Custom trimmed with 1" border for framing.

It's Cole Phelps & Batman investigating a Portal. An illustration I made for Rogue's December Issue.

WATCH Jean Dujardin's Villain Auditions

Doubtful over French actor Jean Dujardin's claim as the Best Actor at the Academy Award for a black-and-white silent film? Behold the incredible range of "The Artist" as he takes on an audition of villainous proportion with the funny folks at Funny or Die.

There is without a doubt that a somewhat mysterious trend exists for foreign actors who became successful in America to sign up for the main villain role in a major Hollywood production (Christoph Waltz's The Green Hornet turn, for example).

In this clip obviously made before Jean Dujardin clinched the honor of Best Actor at the Academy Award, the folks at Funny or Die worked with the immensely charismatic French actor for a hilarious series of audition for the stereotypical Hollywood villain role for every major Hollywood franchises you can think of, from the massive (Mission: Impossible) to the mediocre (Smurfs).

Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem - Undead Monday

Posted by Grey

Heretic. Witch. Devil. This Undead Monday, we take a look at Rob Zombie’s latest supernatural horror film, The Lords of Salem.

The third film from Haunted Films following the successful Paranormal Activity and Insidious, The Lords of Salem marks Rob Zombie's return to original horror film following his Halloween remake films.

Starring Sheri Moon Zombie, the film follows a somewhat old school-esque storytelling with the return of a coven of witches (whom we presumed are those that captured during the Salem Witch Trials) after a local DJ unwitting unleashes them via playing a satanic record that plays backward.

Interested? Hit the jump to check out the first official images and posters from the film.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

Heidi, a blond rock chick, DJs at a local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the “Big H Radio Team.” A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, a gift of the Lords. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread to spread their word.

As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords’ record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon, Heidi and her cohorts are far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting.

The original Lords of Salem are returning and they’re out for blood.

The Lords of Salem is expected to be released sometime this year.

Frank Quitely Does Star Wars

Jedi has never looked more deadlier... Thanks to Frank Quitely.

We were intrigued by the potential awesomeness when we first noticed that Frank Quitely, the Scottish comic book artist well-known for his signature art style that mixes hyper-realism to quirky fantasy in perfect balance, was one of the contributors in Star Wars Art: Comics, the collaboration between LucasFilm and Abrams Books that collects artwork from "the entire history of Star Wars comics publishing".

Here at The Daily Zombies, our love for Quitely's graphic achievements have been well-documented. Some time back, we have seen the artist giving us his rendition of the iconic Saturday Morning Cartoon, He-Man and the Master of the Universe. Today, we have the great pleasure of witnessing the incredible artist taking on one of the most popular properties out these: Star Wars.

Hit the jump and share our joy. Screw the prequel trilogy 3D re-releases. This is Star Wars.

David Morrissey Cast as The Governor in The Walking Dead: Zombie of the Week

Posted by Grey

This week's Zombie of the Week goes to a survivor of a massive zombie apocalypse and the casting of the character in AMC's The Walking Dead!

The living took over at this edition of Zombie of the Week with the announcement of the casting of a dreadful fan-favorite character from Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic book series.

But of course, The Governor is coming in season three of the gradually-getting-stale AMC TV series, and things are going to change... big time. The much-anticipated casting of The Governor has finally completed. In an official announcement by AMC, the BAFTA-nominated British actor David Morrissey has been cast as the goddamn Governor, probably the most nefariously villainous character you will ever find in a fucking zombie apocalypse. And that's saying a lot.

Hit the jump to check out the full press release from AMC:

AMC announced today that David Morrissey has been cast in the role of The Governor in the networks’ critically acclaimed hit series, “The Walking Dead.” The Governor, a character from Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel, is the leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of survivors, and becomes the chief antagonist for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group.

The Governor will appear in “The Walking Dead” season three, a 16-episode order from AMC, which begins production this spring in Atlanta.

A BAFTA Award nominee, Morrissey has appeared in many acclaimed British series including “State of Play,” “Meadowlands,” “The Deal” and “Blackpool.” Along with his celebrated work in television, Morrissey is also known for his leading roles in feature films such as The Reaping, The Other Boleyn Girl, Centurion, The Water Horse, Nowhere Boy and Blitz. He recently wrapped Welcome to the Punch opposite James McAvoy and Mark Strong. Morrissey is represented by The Collective and Troika in the UK.

“The Walking Dead” season two airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.

The Joker's Ever-So-Classic Grin

That's one grin nobody can ever wipe off.

The grin of the Clown Prince of Crime, of course. As masterfully displayed by artist HidaKuma, the Joker's signature smirk is something nobody can ever really wipe off. Well, not even the Dark Knight himself.

With that in mind, I have recently procured a Joker soundboard from iTunes at $0.99 and personally felt that that's ninety-nine cents you ain't getting back. Helpful notes for the Joker fans out there like me.

Before Watchmen Collectible Figures Announced

Posted by Grey

With DC Comics' announcement of "Before Watchmen", a collective series of prequel of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' all-time classic 1986 comic series "Watchmen" earlier this month, we all knew this ain't far behind.

All things considered, this should be a good news with the release of not one but two (and I can assured you, there's more to come from here) collectible statues based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' seminal epic 1986 comic book series "Watchmen". On wait a minute, the official press release says it is instead "based on character art from the recently announced BEFORE WATCHMEN, a series of all-new stories that expand on the universe of best-selling graphic novel, WATCHMEN". Which brings to our point, and perhaps Alan Moore's very own point. Despite the level of the combined talents involved in this project, this seems more like an exercise to print money by whatsoever means possible.

And you know what the sad thing is? I'll be right in line when these prequels come out. With no further ado, hit the jump to check out the first two 9” resin statues from the series, Rorschach and Comedian. And for those who also like to check out hi-res versions of The Dark Knight Rises statue and busts that were featured in our earlier entry, check out the official page from DC Comics' The Source blog.

Here's the official press release:

DC Entertainment’s collectible group also rolls out extensive ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ line

Prototypes for Rorschach and Comedian statues will be unveiled at the show, kicking off the new BEFORE WATCHMEN product line that will go on sale later this year, exclusively from DC Direct.

Also announced today is an extensive line-up of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES collectibles based on characters from the highly-anticipated upcoming Warner Bros. film. The line includes statues, busts and action figures based on iconic characters from the film including Batman, Catwoman and Bane.

“The DC Direct team has put together an amazing line-up for 2012,” stated Geoff Johns, Chief Creative Officer for DC Entertainment. “THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and BEFORE WATCHMEN lines are especially exciting, and the team has set the bar high as far as creative execution. Alessandro Biffignandi's Epic Horror Art - Undead Monday

Posted by Grey

This Undead Monday, we take a nostalgic trip to revisit some of the most provocative and alluring pulp art of yesteryears courtesy of pulp art legend Alessandro Biffignandi.

Stumbled upon at the ever-reliable Juxtapoz, we have recently come across some of the most provocative and alluring art from the pulp age circa 50s, 60s and the 70s. Conjured by pulp art legend Alessandro Biffignandi who was born in Rome in 1935, these amazing painted art works are mainly the covers of pulp magazine strip throughout the pulp age.

A genre painter who is well-versed in taking on subject of the adventurous, his work regularly featured dynamic presentation of horror, fantasy, and sci-fi element.

Understandably, the artist's work is mainly NSFW, so thanks to Morbid Dementia, hit the jump to take a sneak peek at some of the artist's more acceptable work. For those who want to check out the artist's earlier explicit work, check out his Facebook for more.

Update: To our horror (pardon the pun), this was a genuine case of mistaken identity that originated from Morbid Dementia and they have actually took down the original page while taking the opportunity to make amends by posting another article highlighting the works of the actual artist that conjured these delightful masterpieces, Emanuele Taglietti.

Like in the case of Morbid Dementia, we were contacted by Taglietti, who pointed out our effort by directing us to his Facebook page. Which in itself is a genuine source of incredible art.

We extend our most sincere apology to both Mr. Emanuele Taglietti and Mr. Alessandro Biffignandi.

We have featured Taglietti's amazing art in a recent article to both make amends and to also pay tribute to his masterful Fumetti work. We will be featuring more of Biffignandi's Fumetti works in a later entry.

WWE Elimination Chamber Preview

Posted by Grey

Tonight at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, WWE presents Elimination Chamber as we move on to the last stop on The Road to WrestleMania.

The final PPV before the "Showcase of the Immortals", WrestleMania, the third annual Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View (PPV) will take place tonight at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Being the final stop on the long hard Road to WrestleMania, Elimination Chamber traditionally played the role of delivering last-minute storyline changes, scripted title changes, surprise returns, and any likely major announcement to further hype up WrestleMania. At last month's Royal Rumble, we have witnessed the surprising triumphant of Sheamus in the titular main event, thereby emerging as the number-one contender for the WWE/World Heavyweight Title of his choice in the main, oh I mean upper-card event of WrestleMania (everybody and their dogs know that there is only one true main event in the upcoming WrestleMania), and tonight we shall have a clearer picture of the match card on "The Greatest Stage Of Them All", WrestleMania XXVIII.

Tonight, twelve contestants will battle in "Satan's Structure" containing "two miles of chain, 10 tons of steel, 16-feet in height and 36-feet in diameter," and other hyperbole you might want to insert yourself. Will Daniel Bryan survive the diabolical enhanced steel cage with his World Heavyweight Championship? With Santino Marella taking the place of Randy Orton, I will have to say he has a pretty good chance. We will also have a good sneak peek at the inevitable Punk/Jericho's battle for the "Best in the World" moniker in the red brand's Elimination Chamber match.

John Cena's war with the Big Red Machine, Kane, concludes tonight with an ambulance match following the mental and physical destruction of Cena's (former) friend Zack Ryder. Will Cena finally embrace the hate of WWE Universe? Meanwhile, in a more insignificant part of the WWE Universe, Tamina Snuka is the latest challenger for Beth Phoenix's WWE Divas Championship.

Over at our prediction department, our third choice Sheamus won the Royal Rumble while we accurately predicted the results of both WWE/World Heavyweight Championship match. For those keeping the score, we also had a perfect score for both Raw and SmackDown's Elimination Chamber matches last year.

Now on with our snap preview for the show.

Raw Elimination Chamber Match

Reigning WWE Champion CM Punk takes on Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho, The Miz, R-Truth, and Kofi Kingston.

With a notably more talented line-up, the Raw iteration of the Elimination Chamber is quite likely the better one in terms of match quality. However, the match is also the more hard-to-predict one despite the fact that there are only two likely winners.

Predicted Winner: CM Punk

While Kofi Kingston is only thrown in to make up the numbers, former tag team partners-turned-bitter rivals The Miz and R-Truth are on the way to perhaps a WrestleMania grudge match. Perhaps more so after the god-awful botch spot by The Miz from a few weeks ago when R-Truth dived at him from the ring. Dolph Ziggler has only recently made it to the WWE Championship title picture but is unlikely to move further up the line since WrestleMania season has kicked off.

So realistically, the earlier mentioned inevitable Punk/Jericho's battle for the "Best in the World" moniker is bound to happen at WrestleMania XXVIII. So the only question we have is whether WWE will go the conventional way by letting Jericho take the title tonight and have Punk utilizing his rematch clause at WrestleMania or if Punk were to retain the title somehow and still facing Jericho at WrestleMania but as a reigning champion.

In all honesty, the WWE Championship has been considerably hurt by the "hot potato" title changes throughout the Summer. By continuing Punk's healthy title reign, the damage can yet be repaired especially at this juncture of time when we are heading into WrestleMania.

SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match

Reigning World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan takes on Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Big Show, The Great Khali, and Santino Marella. Yes, you read that right. Santino Marella.

With SmackDown's ratings continue to remain strong, Bryan's originally perceived short title reign has just gotten a boost and it is increasingly apparent that he might be heading into WrestleMania XXVIII as the champion to beat. While we don't quite agree with his heel-turn, we must say that he is doing a good job, running with the ball in hand.

With Orton apparently sustained a concussion on Raw, his place has been taken by Santino Marella, after surprisingly winning a battle royal on SmackDown. At best, Marella will be a comic relief that might yet be decent. However, with The Biggest Athlete in The World, Big Show, being the next viable winner, we are not really that pumped up about this particular Elimination Chamber match with perhaps the least star quality in the history of all Elimination Chamber matches.

Predicted Winner: Daniel Bryan
While it is unlikely that both WWE and World Heavyweight Championship are retained in both matches, we opined that Bryan winning is perhaps the only way to go. That is, unless Marella is taken out early in the match by perhaps, a returning Christian or Alberto Del Rio, who then go to win the title. THis is quite unlikely as the writers have done a good job in building the cowardly champion Bryan and people would really pay to see him lose the title.

John Cena vs. Kane (Ambulance Match)

Finally, we are at the final chapter of the "Embrace the Hate" saga that was filled with poor acting and over-the-top drama. While the idea of Kane wanting Cena to win his match-up with The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII by forcing him to embrace the hate is pretty unique for us, the execution of the painstakingly drawn-out storyline has so far fell short. If you have seen the Cena/Kane episode one on last month's Royal Rumble, you have basically seen everything. And we have seen too much of the blasted ambulance on last week's Raw too.

Prepare for a most painful and unnecessary long match.

Predicted Winner: John Cena
We still longed to see you, heel-Cena. Mere weeks from WrestleMania XXVIII where a match that has been billed at the "The Greatest Match in WWE History" would be taking place between Cena and The Rock, we just can't see how Cena is going to lose this one. So what matters is how he get there. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, if you have been like us, longing to witness the final heel-turn of John Cena, this would be the night if it will ever happen (tonight or the WrestleMania match itself, in fact).

Cena will embrace the hate and totally destroy Kane. And probably Ryder too if he shows up. And if it's back in the Attitude Era, he will probably rape Eve while he's at that. Kane seemingly did it last week.

Divas Champion Beth Phoenix vs. Tamina Snuka

Ah, the Divas Champion returns to PPV this month.

The totally unintersting Divas scene has been recently injected with an extremely unhealthy dose of gas (literally). I serious don't know if the fart joke is more offensive or the "Piggy James" arc.

That said, Tamina (now included with the Snuka namesake) is a far better wrestler as compared to almost every other Divas. The match should be better than the usual Divas fare but do note that this is just a placeholder before the full-blown return of Kharma at perhaps WrestleMania.

Predicted Winner: Beth Phoenix
As aforementioned, it is unlikely that a title change will take place with Kharma looming on the horizon of the WWE Divas Championship.

The Rundown

We are on the final stop on the Road to WrestleMania. While one of the two Elimination Chamber matches is perhaps the most unappealing one in the history of the course of this particular type of match, we are interested in having a sneak peek at Punk/Jericho. In addition, despite the expected poor quality of the Kane/Cena match, we have been awaiting the moment of the birth of Heel-Cena. Make it happen, WWE.

The Dark Knight Rises/Prestige Trailer Mash-up

Game for some interesting mash-up trailers? Christopher Nolan's masterful narrative in 2006's The Prestige collide with his upcoming magnum opus of his Batman trilogy in this awesome fan-made trailer.

Truth be told, mash-up films are all over the places these days wherever you look online. Mash-up trailer has frankly never worked for me in particular.

Today, our perception are collectively shattered with this incredibly-cut and surprisingly appropriate mash-up trailer for The Dark Knight Rises with the awe-inspiring narrative on the nature of traditional magic trick by Michael Caine in 2006's The Prestige.

Osombie - Zombie of the Week

Posted by Grey

Osama bin Laden lives... as a Zombie, yet again. So it goes without a doubt who our prestigious Zombie of the Week honor went to.

Last October, we here at The Daily Zombies honored the very offensive and awesome (fake?) trailer of "Zombinladen: The Axis Of Evil Dead" as the prestigious Zombie of the Week for its sheer brilliantness and its total disregard for any sensibilities whatsoever. While in the extremely low budget film, Osama bin Laden turned from being the most evil and dangerous man in the world to the most evil and dangerous zombie in the world with the help of a sip of coke, in Osombie, a film from Arrowstorm Entertainment with funding from Kickstarter, Osama bin Laden has emerged yet again with considerable budget as it would seemed.

Hit the jump for some offensive zombie action with the quirky trailer of the film.

Here's the official synopsis of the independent film:

The story follows Dusty, a yoga instructor from Colorado, who is on a desperate rescue mission to save her crazy brother Derek, a conspiracy theorist who is convinced Osama Bin Laden is still alive, despite having been buried at sea. In Afghanistan, Dusty falls in with a team of NATO Special Forces on a secret assignment. Turns out Derek is not so crazy after all, and that Osama has returned from his watery grave and is making an army of zombie terrorists. When the group crashes headlong into the growing zombie apocalypse, Dusty and the troops must find and destroy the root of the zombie insurgency before it infests the rest of the world.

Prometheus: International Trailer

The hype surrounding Ridley Scott’s upcoming probable prequel to the Alien film franchise continues as 20th Century Fox releases a new international trailer of the much-anticipated film.

The buzz surrounding the much-anticipated film continues today as 20th Century Fox releases a new international trailer of the film with some interesting new footage that was not in the first trailer.

With no further ado, hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

Marvelous Stormtroopers

Posted by Grey

Stormtroopers have never looked this cool since 1983 (screw the prequels and the Clone troopers). Thanks to artists Jon Bolerjack and JJ Kirby, the lines between Star Wars and Marvel Universe are blurred.

For starters, we aren't exactly that excited over the 3D re-release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Okay, not as excited as we would have been had George Lucas screened the films inthe way it should have been: The original trilogy followed by the prequel trilogy, if today's generation would still want a piece of that.

That said, perhaps in a timely manner that coincide with the re-release of Jar Jar Binks's debut (we certainly have a niche in highlighting the negative), hit the jump to check out these awesome mash-up illustrations customizing the Stormtroopers into classic characters of Marvel courtesy of artists Jon Bolerjack and JJ Kirby, who have conjured these cool renditions for the 2011 Long Beach Comic Con as well as the Image Expo in Oakland.
