John Carter: Super Bowl XLVI Trailer & New Images

Posted by Grey Saturday, February 11, 2012

We continue our coverage on the cinematic adaptation of the space-faring adventures of former Confederate captain John Carter with the recently-released Super Bowl XLVI trailer.

No matter how you cut it, Andrew Stanton's live-action directorial debut of Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic character, John Carter of Mars, is a strange beast in this year's stellar line-up of blockbuster films. And we attribute that assumption to the fact that this is indeed one of the limited few true blue sci-fi to hit the screens this year.

We have earlier had our first comprehensive look at the film back in July last year, followed by the new trailer that was released just last December. With last Sunday's Super Bowl XLVI, Walt Disney Pictures predictably releases a new trailer of the film to further hype up the fan buzz ahead of its release next month.

With no further ado, hit the jump to check out the Super Bowl XLVI trailer for Disney's John Carter, the upcoming science fiction epic film featuring John Carter, the popular protagonist of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Barsoom series.

Here are some of the recently-released images from the film.

Here's one of the latest posters from the film.

And here's the official synopsis for the film:

From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"--a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
