The Host: First Look

Stephanie Meyer’s The Host hits the silver screen come 2013 and here's our first look at the sci-fi romance film.

With the smashing box office takings of The Hunger Games, there are indeed hope for the young adult fiction-turned-live action Hollywood adaptation market. Come next year, we will have the coming of yet another Hollywood heavy-hitter in the same genre.

Stephanie Meyer's first non-Twilight novel to be brought to the silver screen, The Host is an unique fusion between teenage romance and sci-fi, with a love story told with a background of alien invasion.

Directed by Andrew Niccol, who last brought us In Time, The Host featured some great talent in the form of Saoirse Ronan as the protagonist Saoirse Ronan as well as her invader, Wanderer.

Hit the jump to check out the first teaser trailer followed by some recently-released new images from the film (head over to Yahoo! to watch it in HD).

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

Based on the best-selling novel by TWILIGHT SAGA author Stephenie Meyer, THE HOST is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed.
