Night of the Living: Undead Monday

Posted by Grey Monday, April 16, 2012

This Undead Monday, we take a look at a high concept treatment of the zombie film genre from the macabre minds of Seth Grahame-Smith and Tim Burton.

Well, it goes without saying that zombie films as a genre has gotten admittedly stale (with the exception of Warm Bodies, director Jonathan Levine's upcoming quirky zombie romance) that anytime a high concept premise for the genre show up, it's a cause for celebration. And when the source of this particular treatment is coming from the dark minds of Tim Burton, the director who need no further introduction, and Seth Grahame-Smith, the writer who brought you Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (now unbelievably a major motion picture directed by Timur Bekmambetov) as well as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

According to an earlier reports by Collider, here's the skinny:

Night of the Living, “a stop motion animated film about a town of peaceful monsters must learn how to fight when it is invaded by humans.” Grahame-Smith might write the script with Tim Burton producing.

And now, in a recent interview with THR, Grahame-Smith provided an update:

“I’m right in the middle of writing an animated movie for Tim Burton right now called ‘Night of the Living.’ ‘Night of the Living’ is an idea I have had around for years that I’m doing with Tim Burton. When we were shooting ‘Dark Shadows’ last year I worked up the nerve to tell Tim about it because I always thought it would make a good movie. When I saw what he had done with ‘Frankenweenie‘ and ‘Corpse Bride,’ it always struck me as a great idea for that form. I’m writing it at Warner’s Bros. for him (as a stop-motion monster movie).”

Talk about high concept zombie flick. With both creators' respective prolific history with the horror genre, this could be fun. Stay tuned for more updates.
