Machete Kills: First Look

Posted by Grey Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Machete is back to do what he does best: Kill. And we have Jessica Alba to thank for our first closer look at Robert Rodriguez's sequel to his 2010 ultra-violent action exploitation film, Machete.

We knew it as a fact that it was announced Machete will return in Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again before the credit roll in Robert Rodriguez's 2010 ultra-violent action exploitation film, Machete. But with the film's dismal box-office performance coupled with mixed response from the critics, we have reasonable doubts if Danny Trejo will be back in the big screen as the murderous badass from Mexico. All these are made even more doubtful with Robert Rodriguez being attached with an insane number of upcoming films (among them, the much-anticipated sequel to Sin City).

To our surprise, filming of the sequel picked up last month and we have since received some intriguing casting news. We thought things were interesting with Mel Gibson cast as the chief antagonist, Luther Voz. Then came news that Charlie Sheen has been cast as the President of the United States. A most inspired choice that is, as insane as it might sound, perfectly apt for the ultra-violent action exploitation film.

Earlier this week, thanks to Jessica Alba‘s Twitter feed, we have a first look at the film with some cool set photos released by the returning actress. Hit the jump to check out these pictures followed by posters for the sequel.

And here are the first two posters released.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

The second film in the Machete trilogy finds Machete mourning the loss of his beloved Sartana, slain during a run in with the cartels. Machete is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a cartel leader, Mendez the Madman, who threatens to fire a missile on the US. Machete foils Mendez's plot only to find that the missiles are remote wired to and triggered by the madman’s still beating heart. The only man who can disarm the missile is eccentric billionaire arms dealer, Luther Voz, who has hatched a plan of his own to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on Voz and his army in order dismantle his master plan for global anarchy.
