An unconventional story of incredible adventure, friendship and hope awaits in renowned film-maker Ang Lee's next film, Life of Pi. The Daily Zombies takes a look at the film with the release of the first trailer by 20th Century Fox.

The last weekend of July brings us intriguing first looks at some of the most offbeat yet utterly interesting upcoming films. Just yesterday, we covered on the stunning first extended trailer of Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer, and Andy Wachowski's incredibly ambitious project, Cloud Atlas.

Today, we take a first look at celebrated Asian film-maker Ang Lee's next film, Life of Pi, with the release of its first trailer by 20th Century Fox.

Based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Yann Martel, Life of Pi is about the incredible tale of an India zookeeper's son, who is also the sole survivor of a sunked freighter and spent 227 days at sea as he find himself stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger.

Hit the jump to check out the gorgeous visual effects of the film with the first trailer of the film.

And here's a ten-second teaser of the film.

Here’s the synopsis from the original novel by Yann Martel:

The son of a zookeeper, Pi Patel has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior and a fervent love of stories. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound for new homes.

The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear, knowledge, and cunning allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days while lost at sea. When they finally reach the coast of Mexico, Richard Parker flees to the jungle, never to be seen again. The Japanese authorities who interrogate Pi refuse to believe his story and press him to tell them “the truth.” After hours of coercion, Pi tells a second story, a story much less fantastical, much more conventional–but is it more true?

Featuring Tobey Maguire, Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain, Gerard Depardieu, and Suraj Sharma as "Pi" Patel, Life of Pi is currently scheduled to be released on November 21.
