The wait for The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's much-anticipated entry into the Survival Horror Action-Adventure genre, has just got a little harder with these recently-released teasers.

We have last seen The Last of Us at Sony's presentation at E3 and our enthusiasm for what has eventually turned out to be the most anticipated zombie-themed video game that we have for a criminally long time remained as high as ever.

First unveiled at last year's Spike Video Game Awards (VGA), The Last of Us is a Survival Horror Action-Adventure video game developed exclusively for Sony PlayStation 3 by Naughty Dog, the talented folks from the Santa Monica-based studio that brought us the awe-inspiring Uncharted series. While the game is played against a post-apocalyptic survival horror backdrop, the origin of the cataclysm was a fungal plague known as Cordyceps unilateralis that have mutated to become contagious to humans and eventually decimated the population. The game promise to focus into heavy characterization, playing up the "love story about a father-daughter-like relationship" between Joel, a ruthless survivor and Ellie, a 14-year-old girl.

Now, without further ado, hit the jump to check out the Gamescom trailer, played to the melancholic tunes of Hank Williams' "Alone And Forsaken."

And here are some behind-the-scenes featurettes released at Gamescom detailing the complex sequences of the motion-capture process of the game.

With the game showing up next weekend at Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), Sony has commissioned artist Alexander Iaccarino to roll these nifty-looking posters. Click on the images to view them in high resolution.

And here's an early piece on the title by Iaccarino.

Here's the official synopsis of the game:

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven tale about a modern plague decimating mankind. Nature encroaches upon civilization, forcing remaining survivors to kill for food, weapons and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

Developed exclusively for Sony PlayStation 3 by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us is scheduled to be released some time in 2013.
