BBC's 'Sherlock' Adapted into Manga

The Game is Afoot for a manga adaptation of the epic adventures of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock and Martin Freeman’s Watson from the hit BBC television series Sherlock.

There is without a shadow of a doubt that BBC's contemporary update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes will go down as one of the best TV series we have seen in television history. With the ultimate in cliffhanging finales in Season Two, we know we are in for one hell of a long wait for revelations in Season Three. Show-runners and series co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have teased the world at the Edinburgh TV festival with what to expect for Season Three with their usual three words, anticipations are at a fever pitch. This season's three words, incidentally are: Rat, Wedding, Bow. For the uninformed, last season's three words were: Woman, Hound, Fall, referring to the "Woman", Irene Adler in "A Scandal in Belgravia", the "Hound" in "The Hounds of Baskerville", and the "Fall" in "The Reichenbach Fall".

With the new three words, we are fully expecting "The Giant Rat of Sumatra", a plot element that was never elaborated at the time, and perhaps one of the numerous weddings of Watson that was not told in the original novels, and "Bow" as in "His Last Bow", the final chronological story in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's entire chronicle of the one true Great Detective.

With adaptations of the Great Detective being a rampant trend with CBS' Elementary, and the recently-announced Sherlock Gnomes, I am pretty certain we will see more to come. Nevertheless, a manga adaptation of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's free-wheeling adventures might just help to soothe our impossible anticipation for Season Three. As reported by Anime News Network, Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine will be launching a manga adaptation of BBC's Sherlock television series on October 4, with Jay, the artist, taking on an adaptation of "A Study in Pink," which is in turn adapted from the first-ever Sherlock Holmes story.
