Iron Man 3: First Trailer

Tony Stark's worst technological nightmare realized! Pepper Potts in grave peril! The unveiling of Iron Man's arch-nemesis, The Mandarin! Witness Tony Stark's darkest hours yet with the release of first trailer of Iron Man 3.

Described by newly-joined director Shane Black as a "technological crisis thriller" that will deconstruct , there is without a shadow of a doubt that Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3 is among the very most anticipated films of 2013. Here at The Daily Zombies, we have been chronicling the film from the release of its very first official image, the unveiling of a couple of conceptual art pieces, to the San Diego Comic-Con panel at Hall H. Today, the hype for the film hit an all-time high fever pitch with the official unveiling of the stunning first trailer for the film.

With no further ado, hit the jump to check out the awesome trailer (head over to Apple to view it in HD).

Yes, no AC/DC or Black Sabbath track but still rocking everybody's socks off. While the trailer is made up of the footage shown at the SDCC panel, it is significantly more sombre in both tone and scale.

Overwhelmed by what you just witnessed? Head over to iO9 for their expert "frame-by-frame" analysis. We have also included some of the screen captures here with some of the peculiar points highlighted.

The trailer kicked off with a severely injured Tony Stark in full Iron Man gear alone in the snow...

Then we flash back to better times with Stark wearily dealing with the media mob. as he reminisces how "nothing's been the same since New York (the events in The Avengers)...

And went on to play with his brand new thought-controlled Mark XLVIII armor..

Apparently, Tony Stark having problems with sleeping... or nightmares.

The always stoic Don Cheadle as James Rhodes, AKA War Machine.

And here's the first cryptic image with some weird silhouettes...

Ahhh, evil abundant. Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, the supposed creator of Extremis.

A cool scene featuring the new XLVII armor in action.

All Tony wants is to protect the one thing that matters to him? Bad news, Pepper Potts.

A surprisingly creepy/cool scene that could be a result of malfunctioning XLVII armors or just plain nightmare?

And here's the single most baffling image with the first unveiling of Ben Kingsley's The Mandarin. What's up with Captain America shield-like tattoo with an Avengers "A" in the middle doing on the back of The Mandarin's neck? A result of one of Tony Stark's pranks?

Rebecca Hall's Dr. Maya Hansen. Fans of Warren Ellis' Extremis storyline will know how this is going to go down.

Iron Patriot doing his "thingy".

Apparently, Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau, incidentally the director of the first two films), who is no longer Tony's head of security, is in pretty bad shape.

Pepper Potts in grave peril!

Symbolic of the fate of good ol' Shellhead in this one.

"Heroes. There's no such things." So said The Mandarin, and his ten rings.

Another cool shot playing the idea of Tony's inner struggle.

Tony in bad shape.

Another shot at The Mandarin's weird "A" tattoo.

The destruction Tony Stark's lush Malibu estate begins.

The Mandarin!

The last shot of the trailer with Tony Stark towing his armor in the snow.

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, here's a clear shot for those who did not get a good look at Ben Kingsley's turn as Iron Man's arch-nemesis, The Mandarin.

And kudos to USA Today and the film's Facebook page, here are the official images freshly released by Marvel Studios.

Speaking to USA Today, here are some of the noteworthy soundbytes from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige:

“Robert is in almost every scene, which, when you have Robert, is not a bad thing. The goal with Iron Man 3 is to again prove that all of our single heroes are as interesting alone as they are when they’re all together in an Avengers movie.”

“Now we see he’s invented a technology that allows him to basically have the suit arrive to him anywhere at any time, piece by piece. And it doesn’t always work at first.”

“That’s one of the things we love about (Tony) It is not a new girl in every film. Pepper Potts is an incredibly important part of his life and his evolution as a hero. She plays a very big part in this film.”

In closing, here are some of the recently leaked set images featuring both the brand new Mark XLVII armor as well as the Iron Patriot on location in Miami Beach, Florida, courtesy of

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of Tales of Suspense (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with The Invincible Iron Man (#1) in May of 1968. Iron Man 3 is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
