Hero Complex Gallery’s Oscar Legends Show

Posted by Grey Saturday, February 16, 2013

With Oscar fever now at a raving high now that the Academy Awards Ceremony is in our immediate horizon, Hero Complex Gallery get into the mood with Oscar Legends, their latest show featuring art inspired by some of the greatest Oscar-winning films in history.

We have earlier covered on “For Your Consideration,” the first collaborative exhibition between the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Gallery1988 featuring art inspired by the 2012 Best Picture Oscar® nominees. Not one to be outdone with, Hero Complex Gallery has rolled out their very own exhibition celebrating the spirit of Oscar by giving their artistic take on some of the greatest Oscar-winning films in history.

From Casablanca, Chinatown, Aliens, Pulp Fiction, Gladiator, Star Wars, Terminator 2, Raiders of the Lost Ark, An American Werewolf in London, to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, numerous Oscar-winners which are already cinematic legends by themselves are presented in the "Oscar Legends" show. As if the show isn't intriguing enough to capture your attention, Hero Complex will also be launching the second phase to their earlier show, "Weapon of Choice." Entitled "Weapon of Choice, Phase Two," expect more winning combination of fine art and cinematic icons.

The exhibition is set to be held from February 15th onwards at SOMArts at San Francisco. For now, hit the jump to check out these cool posters.

February is Oscars month, a time that reminds us all why we love film so much, so to celebrate our most cherished films we're rolling out the red carpet as we announce our next gallery exhibition...landing in San Francisco on February 15th: “Oscar Legends!” and “Weapon of Choice, Phase 2!”

First up, in San Francisco, we are putting on TWO art exhibitions under one roof, with the opening reception landing on Friday, February 15th, from 6-10pm, at the SOMArts Cultural Center.

On one side of the gallery “Oscar Legends” will feature art inspired by some of history’s most groundbreaking Oscar-winning films. Annie Hall will be there, as well as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. And Once they’ve heard about it, The Usual Suspects will probably come from as far as Chinatown and Casablanca to see this exhibit in all it’s Glory. Put down your Pulp Fiction and come witness all this American Beauty for yourself! Longtime film and art-lover, Rotten Atom, has graciously agreed to help curate the show, and we couldn't be more excited!

On the other side of the gallery, we will be presenting “Weapon of Choice, Phase 2!” Our Weapon of Choice show in January proved to be such a huge hit with the fans and the artists that we will be presenting all new art from artists who wanted to take a stab at this sweeping eclectic theme. New subjects will be tackled with great enthusiasm by Blunt Graffix, Godmachine, Nicole Gustafsson, Chris B. Murray, Marie Bergeron, Joey Spiotto, Alex R. Kirzhner, and David Welker, just to name a few. Oh, and Craig Drake just might have a new piece in the show too that you won’t want to miss!

In addition to the SF showings, we'll be exhibiting the "Oscar Legends" artwork up in Portland, Oregon at the famous 86 year old grand movie house, The Hollywood Theater. Oscar Legends will be on display during the theater’s annual Oscar Night Gala on Sunday, February 24th from 3pm until the doors close. Come dressed to the nines in your tux or evening gown, or dress in your Lebowski bathrobe if that's your thing...just be prepared to have fun celebrating with 500 of your closest film fan friends as you share in Oscar-based art during a live telecast of the Oscars.

Whichever theme the artists’ have chosen, they've risen to the challenge to deliver some mind-blowing art and we can’t wait to share it all with you!

Please come join us in February to see the results of their hard work!
