Kick-Ass 2: First Look

Posted by Grey Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl are back in action on the big screen in Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to 2010's Kick-Ass, the film based on Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.'s comic book series. The Daily Zombies takes a First Look at the film with the recently-released red-band trailer.

While Kick-Ass, Matthew Vaughn's 2010 superhero action comedy based on Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.'s comic book series of the same name, was eventually a watered down version of its source material that was filled with an exhilaratingly raw (at times, obscenely so) and dark vision, it remained to be one of the most faithful comic book adaptations in Hollywood that worked. With Vaughn moving on from the director helm in the sequel, Jeff Wadlow take on the sequel that will indeed be bigger and badder both in terms of the scale of the threat as well as the cast.

With Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kick-Ass and Chloe Grace Moretz’s Hit Girl inspiring a new wave of masked superheroes taking on the crusade, Jim Carrey joined the cast as Colonel Stars and Stripes, the leader of Justice Forever, a rag-tag team of laughable superheroes. At the other corner, Christopher Mintz-Plasse's Chris D'Amico AKA Red Mist in the first film, has gone to the furthest end at the dark side, transforming himself into a supervillain with one hell of a namesake: The Mother Fucker. With The Mother Fucker assembling a team of masked supervillains, the stage for a showdown as the stakes are higher than ever before.

With the film set to open on August 16, Universal has released the first red-band trailer of the film. With no further ado, hit the jump to check out the cool trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2.  After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol.  When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave.  With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.  Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own.  With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets,  the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad.  But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Kick-Ass 2 will be featuring returning cast with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse reprising their roles as Jim Carrey, Morris Chestnut, , Donald Faison, Clark Duke, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, and Olga Kurkulina rounding up the cast. The film is currently set to open on August 6.
