Oblivion: New Trailer & Posters

Posted by Grey Sunday, March 10, 2013

With the impending release of Oblivion, the upcoming sci-fi film directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise, we take a look at the recently-released trailer, featurette, and posters from Universal Pictures.

We have earlier had our First Look at Oblivion, a blockbuster sci-fi thriller directed by Joseph Kosinski and based on the Radical Comics graphic novel of the same name written by Kosinski himself. with the first trailer and poster for the film. What naturally made Oblivion stood out instantly from your usual sci-fi fanfare would be the fact that it stars the ever-diligent Tom Cruise, whom interests in sci-fi films (last spotted in a robot suit on set in our First look at All You Need Is Kill) would have been so much more awesome had it not for his personal choice of faith. All said and done, we can at least put this on record that the sci-fi films Cruise is on are of a noteworthy calibre.

In Oblivion, Cruise is Jack Harper, one of the last few drone repairmen stationed (as we have mentioned before, some sort of human "Wall-e")thousands of meters above earth, as a result of catastrophic alien invasions decades ago. Everything comes crashing down after Harper rescued a female stranger from a downed spacecraft that Harper comes face to face with the truth behind the war and its aftermath. Like I said, interesting set-up.

Here's the recently-released new trailer for the film.

In this first featurette for the film, we get to see some interesting new footages as well as intriguing insights from Kosinski and Cruise on the convoluted plot of the film.

Following his previous awe-inspiring collaboration with Daft Punk on the score for Tron: LegacyKosinski has yet again tapped into notable music commodities for Oblivion' soundtrack with electronic band M83. Courtesy of Rolling Stone, hit the jump to check out the first clip entitled "StarWaves."

Here are some of the official set images that are released from Universal Pictures.

Here are the recently-released posters for the film.

And here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Oblivion was shot in stunning digital 4K resolution on location across the United States and Iceland.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko, Melissa Leo, and Morgan Freeman,  Oblivion is scheduled to be released in IMAX on April 19, 2013.
