Scorsese: An Art Show Tribute

Posted by Grey Sunday, April 21, 2013

Reminisce on some of the most memorable films in Martin Scorsese's prolific and decorated cinematic body of work with these awe-inspiring renditions from more than 70 artists across the world to pay tribute to the legendary film-maker at Spoke Art Gallery's "Scorsese: An Art Show Tribute" gallery show.

Just last month, we covered artist Martin Ansin's take on Taxi Driver with their special screenings of the 4K digital restoration of Taxi Driver at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz and reminisced on some of the most unforgettable films in cinematic history thanks to undoubtedly one of the most important film-makers of our time, Martin Scorsese.

Perhaps sharing both our nostalgia as well as penchant for remarkable artistic renditions of iconic films, Spoke Art Gallery unleashes a massive showing of more than one hundred paintings and screen prints from more than 70 artists across the world to pay tribute to legendary film-maker Martin Scorsese at the "Scorsese: An Art Show Tribute" exhibition held at the Bold Hype Gallery in Chelsea, New York City, over the weekend.

With some of these images making it online, feast your eyes on these awesome pieces courtesy of the San Francisco-based art gallery right after the jump.

Here's the official press release:

An art show tribute to the films of Martin Scorsese

4/19/13 – 4/21/13

Spoke Art gallery is proud to present “Scorsese” an art show tribute to the films and life of acclaimed director, writer and producer, Martin Scorsese.

Widely regarded as one of America’s most talented filmmakers, Scorsese boasts a 40+ year career in cinema and his love affair with the city of New York has manifested itself in such a way that the director is considered an unofficial biographer of the Big Apple. With this in mind, Spoke Art gallery in San Francisco has opted to bring our “Scorsese” tribute art show to NYC for a weekend-only showing of new and original paintings, sculptures and prints.

“Scorsese” debuts Friday, April 19th with an opening night party from 6pm to 10pm at Bold Hype Gallery in Chelsea. Admittance is free, complimentary refreshments will be served, and the artists will be in attendance. The show will remain on view until Sunday, April 21st.
