Thor: The Dark World - First Trailer & Poster

Posted by Grey Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Brace Thyself. The God of Thunder returns to the big screen come November and Marvel Studios has released the first trailer of Thor: The Dark World.

With the first chapter of Marvel Studios' much-anticipated Phase Two kicking off with Iron Man 3 opening internationally in IMAX 3D theatres on April 25th (with a domestic release on May 3rd), the mighty marketing engines of Marvel is working overtime to make it clear to the folks who enjoyed Joss Whedon's box-office-busting culmination to the mega-successful Phase One films, "The Avengers," that Marvel is once open for business for more of those superheroic action that have taken the global box-offices by storm. We have earlier taken our First Look at Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and now the God of Thunder himself is here for a sneak preview at the sequel of Kenneth Branagh's relatively well-received first film on the Marvel Comic character based on Norse mythology, Thor: The Dark World.

With no further ado, hit the jump to check out the somewhat cliché-filled but ultimately intriguingly grandeur vision of new director Alan Taylor.

And if you haven't seen enough, here are some screenshots from the trailer.

To coincide with the release of the first trailer, Marvel has also released the first poster as well as some new official images from the film.

We have last saw Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Jaimie Alexander’s Sif on the set of an epic medieval battle scene in the making with some pretty awesome leaked set images from the film. And here are more cool leaked images thanks to Splash NewsCelebBuzz, ComicBookMovie, and Dan Mumford.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Thor: The Dark World is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book Journey into Mystery“ #83 in August, 1962.
