Ender’s Game: First Look

Posted by Grey Thursday, May 9, 2013

Orson Scott Card's 1985 sci-fi novel comes to life this November courtesy of South African film-maker, Gavin Hood. The Daily Zombies take a First Look at Ender's Game with the release of the first trailer and poster by Summit Entertainment.

Orson Scott Card once said, "Ender's Game is an '"unfilmable" book, not because it's too much violence but because everything takes place in Ender's head." And here we are with the Hollywood tentpole live-action adaptation of the critically acclaimed 1985 science fiction novel written by Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game, set to hit the big screens in November.

An unconventional sci-fi tale depicting a considerably peculiar take on the good ol' "mankind's last stand against a full-fledged alien invasion with overwhelming odds," Ender's Game's protagonist, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin is a young child who is also a cadet-in-training at Battle School to master the art of war.  Helmed by Gavin Hood whom last cinematic effort (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) severely overwhelmed us with many crediting the problems to the interference from the executive powers-that-be,  the live-action adaptation of Ender’s Game has been highly anticipated by longtime fans of the multiple awards-winning young adult sci-fi novel. For us, anytime Hollywood rally its efforts for an all-out sci-fi, we opine that we can only applaud.

Without further ado, hit the jump for the first trailer of the film.

Here's the first poster for the film.

Courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, here's our first glimpse at the legendary Mazer Rackham, portrayed by Ben Kingsley.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

In the near future, a hostile alien race called the Formics have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Hyrum Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young minds to find the future Mazer.

Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy but strategically brilliant boy, is recruited to join the elite.  Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult challenges and simulations, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School.  Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham himself to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Based on the best-selling, award winning novel, ENDER’S GAME is an epic adventure which stars Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, with Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford.

Starring Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Viola Davis,Khylin Rhambo, Moises Arias, and Ben Kingsley, Ender's Game is currently scheduled to be released on November 1, 2013.
