Gravity: First Look

Posted by Grey Saturday, May 11, 2013

Behold an original sci-fi vision from Alfonso Cuarón, the Mexican film-maker who brought us the brilliant Children of Men. The Daily Zombies takes a First Look at Gravity, the upcoming sci-fi film about a pair of astronauts stranded in space.

Easily one of the most anticipated sci-fi films with an original concept right alongside Neill Blomkamp's Elysium and Guillermo Del Toro‘s Pacific RimAlfonso Cuarón's Gravity's development stage has been pretty much well-publicized thanks to the revolving doors of Hollywood big-names involved (from Angelina Jolie to Robert Downey Jr.) Now, in an effort to bring the focus back to the film itself, Gravity is considerably a bold Hollywood production in this time and age given both the fact that it is not based on any existing properties and the somewhat uncommon subject of the film.

Chronicling the misadventures of two astronauts, played by well-established Hollywood mainstays George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, as they find themselves stranded in space after a catastrophic event. Co-written, co-produced, and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, the Mexican film-maker who brought us Children of Men, the critically acclaimed 2006 dystopian sci-fi film.

With the film set to be released this October, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer and poster of the film. Without further ado, hit the jump to check out the brilliant trailer complete with some breathtaking shots of outer space the likes that we have not seen for some time while conveying the terrifying sense of helplessness and solitary.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Gravity is currently scheduled to be released on October 4, 2013.
