Happy Star Wars Day, 2013

We resume transmission of our annual well wishing of today this year: Happy Star Wars Day, and May the Fourth Be With You.

After last year's absence of our usually annual well wishes on May 4th, the Star Wars Day (also sometimes known as Luke Skywalker Day, the day was of course started by fans as an unofficial holiday to celebrate the Star Wars culture and because of a pun on the similarity between the date, read as "May the 4th", and the beginning of the phrase "May the Force be with you", a famous quote often spoken in the Star Wars movies), we resume our transmission here at The Daily Zombies: May the Fourth Be With You.

It certainly is a particularly good time to be a Star Wars fan these day. In fact, it's arguably the best times ever in decades given the fact that Disney, the shiny new owner of one of the biggest franchises in pop culture will be rolling out Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015 with J. J. Abrams taking the director chair. This is without a shadow of a doubt the single biggest subject of any self-respecting geeks on Earth (yes, geeks do respect themselves after all).

And being one of the most prolific geeks of all, well-known stand-up comedian, writer, actor and voice actor Patton Oswalt recently unleashed on the set of NBC's "Parks and Recreation" as a citizen doing a filibuster (an action such as a prolonged speech that obstructs progress in a legislative assembly while not technically contravening the required procedures, thanks Dictionary) in the most awesome way imaginable by intricately outlining the plot of Star Wars: Episode VII in an eight-minute ad-libbed rant in one astonishing take. And being one hell of major geek, Oswalt merges the potential plotlines of Avengers 2 as the heroes and villains of Marvel Cinematic Universe are brought in along with a ton of other Marvel superheroes of which filming licensing rights are not with Marvel or Disney (X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and everyone else from the Marvel Universe). And to top things up, he even went further by including Hercules from Marvel Universe and from there, every gods and monsters from the Clash of the Titans films. From insane plotline from a Lando/Leia affair, Robot Chewbacca, and the incredible assembly of every Marvel superheroes on screen, this is really one epic rant for the geeks. So much so that an appropriately poster has been conjured for it, courtesy of the artists at Entertainment Weekly right after jump.

And right after this jump, you have to see the epic rant yourself to believe it.

For the US-based viewers, the original clip loaded.

And for the people everywhere else, the reloaded clip.

In an interesting turn of events, the inquisitive good folks from Slash Films recently checked with Kevin Feige, President of Production at Marvel Studios on the chances of the film happening. While Shane Black, the director of Iron Man 3, admitted that "it's a pretty awesome rant," Feige has the following remarks for the question:

I don’t know, you figure… It probably took twenty or thirty years of comic book movies before they finally decided that we could combine them into THE AVENGERS, so probably another thirty years of STAR WARS movies before Disney goes “What are we going to do?” “Put them together!”

Meanwhile on the other fronts of the Episode VII news, while the trio of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford have been understandably coy about their involvement in the follow-up film, they have all hinted at different occasions on the reprisal of their respective roles. While working on the promotional press tour for his recently-released biographical sport film 42 at Jimmy Kimmel Live, the usually straight-faced Harrison Ford was engaged in a hilarious segment where he will only answer questions from audience members if the questions are not about Star Wars. The situation understandably spiralled out of control with Ford channelling a grizzled Han Solo (much like what Oswalt described in his filibuster) to take on a surprise audience member.

Hit the jump to check out the gut-busting clip for Ford's untapped comic timing.

Finally, May the Fourth Be With You.
